2000 Camry Wiring Diagram

Would anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for a 4th generation camry? I'm trying to find the wire for the door trigger (the one that turns on the dome light when any door is open).

Can someone help me out please?

run the wire to your fuse box and tap into it from there, I believe they are marked which fuse is for what.

^ I hope your not suggesting to wrap the wire around the fuse. Thats ghetto rigging.

is it wrong to tap into a fuse like that? if so, why? what problem might that cause?

Also, I just found this pic of under the steering wheel (courtesy of user "brink") where the fusebox is. Can someone tell me where the door trigger wire would be in that picture? If you can circle it in paint/photoshop or something, and repost it, I would appreciate it very much.

Wrapping a wire around a fuse is just asking for trouble.

1. Its not a good connection.

2. It could potentially come loose and short out with something else.

3. Its ghetto rigging.

I use to work as a installer at a car stereo / alarm shop, so i've seen all kinds of ghetto rigging. Wrapping a wire around a fuse is one of them.

Either do it correctly (splice into the door trigger wire) or don't do it at all.

What you actually do is up to you.

Thats not the point.

If thats how you hook stuff up, i'd hate to see the rest of your wiring.

Hey 88 LE, I wasn't saying that I wanted to wrap it around the fuse or anything, I was just curious as to what problems it could cause. I would love to do this the safest way possible because I would rather take the time to do it right the first time, than using a down and dirty method that may cause problems in the future. Thank you for the response.

Now, about the picture that I posted. Can you or someone else help point out where the door trigger wire would be located?

DO NOT ever use a fuse tap, that's just asking for trouble. For the door trigger, it's the red/white wire located in a seven pin plug on the top right side of the fuse box.

Thanks Luc. I've seen a few plugs near to the fuse box, but I'm afraid to pull them out. Do I just grip them by wires and yank? How do I remove the plugs so I can test the wires? I really don't want to burninate my car

Do not pull the plugs by the wires, all those plugs have a release tab. You typically don't need to unplug the harness, just find the wire, strip a piece of the sleeve off and test there. All the plugs have specific number of wires, so you can easily identify them just by count.

So I got a DMM today and probed all the wires in the 7 pin plug and even in the other plugs in the nearby vicinity and I feel that I am not finding the right wire. I even probed the 25A fuse that is labeled "door" and I wasn't getting the results I expected.

When I probe the door fuse, I get 12V on the meter when the door is open, but I thought that when I closed the door (pushed the button on the door pillar that makes the dome light go off), the 12V should change to 0V. Is this not true?

Also, the red/white wire in the 7 pin plug is giving me .1V so I don't think that's the wire. This is a 2000 camry. Can someone help me please!?!?

Are you using the dmm correctly? Keep the black lead from the dmm connected to ground and probe the wires with the red lead.

The door trigger wire gives off -12V when any door is open.

To test it, open the drivers door (keep all the other doors closed), probe a wire, and push in the door pin switch.

When the switch is pushed in you should get 0V. And when the switch is not pushed in you should get -12V. If you don't see this happen, you got the wrong wire.

That is the wire. If you know anything about electronics, 0.1V is well within the limits of negative trigger.

I tried it again with a different multimeter and I got a signal from that same red/white wire, but it's saying 12V+ and not negative. It gives 0V when I push the door pin.

So with that figured out, I hooked up my 30/40A, 12V relay:

85 -- Ground
86 -- 12V+/-?? door trigger
87--> not used
87a --> 12V from battery
30 --> Output to neons

My setup works, but not exactly. Now, when the car is off and I push in the door pin, the neons don't turn off and the "door open" indicator light on the dash stays on (but dims slightly).

But when the car is on, and I push the door pin, the neons turn off like they are supposed to (the "door ajar" indicator still does not turn off though). What did I do wrong? Please help! Did I wire the relay wrong? Why am I getting 12V+ instead of 12V-?

Thanks for your responses guys.
