Stock Stereo removal for 98 Camry

I need some direction or even pictures on how to remove the stereo from the car? I thought Rayray had the same gen as i did, but i was wrong. If anyone could post pictures or give me links that i dont have to pay for, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if someone could give me hints in getting my wires through the firewall. Thanks

Shuluke

If you have an automatic on the Gen4/Gen4.5, you can drill a hole through the sheet metal where the clutch assembly would normally attach to. Looking up inside the cavity, it's the football-shaped padded cut-out area. The metal isn't thick, use a unibit to step through after making a hole, and add a rubber grommet afterwards. Otherwise, you'll have to jack the car up, remove left front tire, drop the fender liner off, and use the stock grommet to fish through.

lol, pictures? I just finished the headunit, and i was asking a friend who works on camrys. He said there should be a rubber area allready on the camry where the clutch would go for a manual. Luc think you could put up some pictures? Or if anyone else has pictures that would be awesome. Im installing an alarm today, so i wont be looking for that area, but if Best Buy goes through the firewall, ill be sure to post where they went through. If not, ill go to my friends house and ask him or his father to give me access. Thanks again.

Yea, thats all good, but I have a manual. I hate automatics with a passion - I prefer to drive my car myself.

install doctor only has installation instructions for headunit, they dont show how to run the wiring to the amps in the back or even how to remove the other speakers.

Anyone know how to remove the door sills to run wire to the trunk? I pulled on them yesterday and they moved but i didnt get any clips coming off. Anyone know where the clips are located?

I don't have pictures of where the hole was drilled, but it's easy to identify. You can also see the same oblong shape area below and next to the master cylinder from the engine bay.

You'll have to yank pretty hard on those door sills. Don't worry about the clips not coming off, even if the rubber insulation comes up, you can remove the clips afterwards, which should be only 2 of them, near the front and back. Make sure you take the kick-panels off too.

Ok, ive looked and everyone is telling me that i shouldnt drill there. They said that there could be wires between the metal in the engine bay and the metal thats in the interior. I will look at it again today, and me and my friend will decide if its worth it or not. What did you do to plug the hole? did you fill it with something? Where do i get the rubber grommets from? Man i hate waiting for this to finish... i worked all summer to build this box....

I believe stinger makes rubber grommets for whatever gauge wire your going to feed though it, so if you have 4awg, they have a 4awg grommet for, makes it nice and snug and waterproof. Check sounddomain website.
