Again: which cd/tape players fit 2002 Camry

well i'm still working out finding my friend a stock replacement for his double din Cd/Tape player for his 2002 camry. The dealership and someone on her said that all the players from 2002 up will fit his 2002, but in looking at some of the players on ebay, the plugs on the back look to be different. A couple used part places asked him which of the three brands it was. Which # needs to be matched up between the messed up one and the new one to make sure it will fit his car? the faceplate # on the front or what? If we get the wrong one is there a way around the plug issue?

ONLY the '02-up will fit flushly, since that has a new and wider design compared to pre-'02. Don't even think about those squarish looking ones on ebay, they won't fit nicely since there is no curvature on the faceplate. Only other one is possibly the '04-up Solara.

Only time when the plugs will be different is dependent on whether the car has a "premium" sound system, where there's an OEM somewhere. If it's just the regular, then the standard 2-plug will be in there, otherwise, it would only be a single-preamp plug. The best way to find out for sure is to take the radio out and look behind, sometimes, those numbers may not correctly reflect what's behind it.

Sorry, I've missed the beginning. If you radio is still functional, get yourself a decent CD/MP3 changer and put it in the trunk, as I did and lived happily ever after, but if it doesn't, 'fraid you have not choice, but find a proper one.
