Factory AMP in 98 Avalon XLS!!!! HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
Someone please help me out here. I have been looking for this stupid thing for 3 months now, Toyota said its in the trunk.... NOPE!!! I have stripped the entire trunk, it is not there!! Not under the seats, and it doesnt look like its under the glove box. Down there i saw Engine management, and Cruise control + ingnition. Someone please help me here cause this is really messed up. Do i have a factory freak or something!!! Im going crazy looking for this thing.
I have the premium audio package w/ Single CD and deck in dash.
FOUND IT!! It was in the Glovebox, i needed it cause i have to hook up my Pioneer deck. The deck is an amp already so i dont need the factory shit one. I have to cut the wires from the amp so i can hook them up directly to the deck.
The Avalon does NOT have the mating end for the regular harness, so it needs to be hard-wired. What he's doing is correct.
There's a different harness you can get. I think the model number is 70-5112 but I may be wrong on that. What it does is it'll plug into the harness in the car for power, then it has 4 RCAs for the speakers which you probably wouldn't be using. Avalons suck because they have 4" speakers all around.

you can easily fit 5.25s if you use custom baffle to replace the shitty plastic housings in the doors. Plus with some creativity and inner door modification, I imagine you could fit up to tens in there, Yo/d need to build out a little, but the cut out in the door metal is massive. There is definately a harness to get, I know cos there's one connected to my HU as we speak

I do NOT suggest using those Metra (or any other manufacturer) harnesses that still retain the OEM amp in the system. Why? It's because even "cheap" headunits still have higher preamp output levels that the OEM amp can't handle entirely. What makes it worse is there is no gain adjustment on the OEM amp, so a few clicks up, the volume will be blasting.
damn, just bought the metra 70-8112 harness. Guess ima go return it. Does anyone know or have done a rewire on a 95 toyota avalon premium system. seems like i'm stuck with 2 brown and 2 white with blue stripe wires that dont go anywhere. Any info would be great. Thx in advance
that metra wire adapter bypasses the amp.. on my 94 camry there was an amp in it to power my 8 speaker system but i had unhook the connectors to the right inside where the hu was. it is way better to use an adapter then to be an idiot and splice wires

You don't have to use all of the plugs that included with the harness, you can just use some of them. Just makes some of the job easier.
