Add On Alarm

Hey-

New owner of a 2004 Camry SE that I want to do alot to. I understand there are some alarms that you can add onto your keyless entry. Anyone have any recommendations? Any to stay away from?

I have so not mechanically inclined so I won't be doing the instal myself. Thanks

haha yah, its me again..lol

well for me, i have a friend at bestbuy and he can get me a clifford alarm system/remote start/keyless all for 150 bucks...but the retail on that was like 375 (that includes installation tho).

you can get other systems without the keyless systems and alarm system without the remote start which are much cheaper.

or you can get the standalone alarm system or the standalone keyless system....and those are extremely cheap.

but you might want to go to bestbuy and check out there security systems (there usually in the car audio department)

I recommend Viper. I use to be a installer, so I've installed tons of them.

They start at about $200, that includes installation.

Like 88LE said, basic system at 200.00 can go up to 400.00 of course thats with all the bells and whistles. DEI is the main company so Viper, Clifford and Python are all teh same units.

Ok Viper It is...but one ? about keyless entry

OK I have decided I want a Viper and I want it to have a Remote Start on it. Will I be able to utilize my keyless entry with that or will I have to get something separate? Sorry for yet another question about this....

Viper is a great brand, so I say definately go with it. Stay away from Code Alarm (Circuit City carries it). It's pure garbage, and I know, I sell it. Actually... the best thing to do is buy the alarm and all the parts at BB and then goto CC to get it installed because most the time CC guys do a better job.

Viper alarms have a door lock / unlock output. So you'll use that for your keyless entry.

Even the lowest model (350 HV) has it. Although it doesn't have a built on remote start, but you can add it on (remote start module).

Edit: Make sure you tell the installer to hookup the door lock / unlock wires. Some shops charge extra for it, even though its only 2 wires.
