I have a JVC KD-SH909 head unit in my 2000 camry. I've had it for about two years now but just recently, about two weeks ago, it started to act weird. When I'm playing an audio cd, the music would pause for about a second at random points in a song, and then continue playing. It isn't skipping per se, because there isn't the audible skipping sound typical of cd players...the music cuts off completely for a second, and then continues.
I am quite sure the head unit is the culprit. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be and how I might solve it?
Thanks

pull the head unit out, keep it plugged in... remove of the speakers signal wires.... get your volt meter out... play the song and then see what your volt meter reads when the song cuts out.
if you get nothing then the head unit is your problem, if you voltage then it could be your connections.
I will definitely try that but before I do, does anyone have any other "less involved" solutions to try before I start taking my dash apart? I'd hate to pull out my head unit (which is a bit of a pain) only to find out that it was a problem that could be solved with less hassle.
Thanks.

I'm using both cd's and cdr's, and the problem happens with both. The music plays and then just blanks out for a second, at random points, and then continues normally. It's not my amps, speakers, or anything of that sort. I am sure it is the head unit but I don't know what. Could the cd lens need cleaning (it's the kind that sucks in the cd), do I need to clean the terminals for the faceplate connection? Anybody got any ideas or had something similar happen to them?

clean the contacts of the face plate with 3-36 contact cleaner, run a cd laser cleaner in it and try it.. if it doesn't work replace your HU and see if that helps.

The music continues from where it left off. Doesn't skip over any of the song.

I thought that if I put a laser cleaner in it, it would stick and not eject. Have you (or anybody else) ever tried it? I have the kind where the cd gets sucked in through the slot. And where can I find this 3-36 contact cleaner thingy?
Thanks.

you can get 3-36 from any hardware store... it may be industrial grade, but i'm not sure. Just make sure you get contace cleaner that doesn't leave a residue.
i've never just a cd cleaner... i always took mine apart and cleaned them, but there has to be something out there for that purpose.
