Coaxial is a speaker design that 2-4 speakers are all mounted together, its a simple design, easy to install, and fairly bang for the buck.

Components are 2-3 speakers (tweeter, midrange, mid-woofer) are all seperated and are mounted in different locations, components come with a passive crossover network that seperated the frequencies to the correct speaker. Components cost more, sound better, but need experience to know how to install and set correct imaging.

It seems like you were curious, a crossover just lets you set the hertz range that you want your speakers to play
