I just bought a Escort Passport 5000. Was it worth $40? From what I understand, the Passport 8500 is supposed to be the market leader. Do a lot of you use radar detectors?
That detector came out in '94 or '95. At 10 years old, it's pretty much useless against today's radar technology. Not even worth the $40 compared to todays cheap units that would likely run circles around the Passport 5000.
My friend has a passport 4600 and says it works fine and hasnt failed him yet. I got the 5000 thinking that it came out afterwards and would work just as well if not better. It may not be very good at detecting laser but for $40 I don't expect it to. Besides. I bet the passport 5000 would run circles arond some of those cheap ass unit that I've seen that give you false alarms all day long and don't work when you really need them to. I already looked into that and chose not to go that route. That's like me buying a 2000 Malibu over a '93 camry.

I just bought an 8500. Waiting for it to come. The 5000 is shit. The screen is damn near impossible to see in daylight and has ONLY given me false alarms and it looks ugly and old. I can't wait for the 8500 to come. I got it for only $125.
Yeah i got it on ebay. The auction was only started for 45 mins. And I got a Buy It Now. I was watching some 7500 auctions and one of those went for 85 and another for 70. I can find some more for you guys that are looking.
