What would you do to improve this system?

I'm buying a 1988 toyota corolla 2 door sr5.

I've got a bottom of the line alpine deck (4 years old), a pair of 2 way 6' round alpine speakers, and a pair of 6x9 3 way alpine speakers.

I was thinking i might buy a small but decent quality 8' sub with an amp to increase the quality of my system. My goal is not to thump all the time, but just to have a good quality sounding system. I would prefer accurate and tight bass to loud blaring bass.

Now i know if i want really good sound i need an expensive HU, and what not. But whats my best option for what i have layed out? Ideally i'd like to have a decent component set of speakers, a really good HU, and a good and tight 8' sub, with an amp to power the sub and an amp to power the speakers.

Right now i have no amp to power my speakers. Would it be a good idea to get a sub, an amp for the sub, and then an amp for my alpine speakers? Would the make a big difference? Or is the HU/speakers not good enough to justify that? They are decent alpine speakers, they were about 150-180 per pair when i bought them new (canadian dollars).

So any ideas what i should do, or brands i should buy? My friend is recomending a brand called massive audio. which is supposed to be cheap/really good. He says they're kind of a no name brand so you get the best bang for your buck.

Well i didn't really want to spend more than 300USD (400CND) right NOW. But i'll slowly add. I wanted to keep my HU and speakers for now and just add a sub and amp. But if i added an additional amp for the speakers (if it's worth it), i guess i'd add an extra 150US. But if i could spend less i would, just something decent, not total crap.

i was just thinking though. If i cut holes in my door for these 6' round speakers, and then get a component set of speakers one day down the road wouldn't i be screwed? don't they have only 4 or 5' drivers?

pioneer impp 10 inch they dont cost much sound decent only need like 150 watt amp to power them i had that set up for like 3 months an amp like tht u ould probably get for like 70 bucks and the subs maybe like 80 a piece then just gotta get the wirng

go to your local rex. you can get two 8'' or 10'' mtx subs and a 250 watt amp for around 150 bucks. i did that and ran it for like three months, and i had no complaints.

I would go with a single 10" sub over the 8" it will get a better low range and still be small enough to keep things accurate. As for components, teh JL audio new ones are actually designed by the same guy who designed the $1500 MBQuart set so they sound identical for a lot less money.

ok so a 10' sub. Image dynamics ID10 would be good then?

And for the amp... maybe an MTX like mentioned above?

Id10 or the IDQ10 would be good. Also look into the Arc Audio subs, not the KAR series but the Arc series. They are basicaly the IDQ series subs from ID but they are upgraded some.

As for an amp you can get a hifonics brutus bx500d for very cheap like 140 bucks at www.indoaudio.com. You can run the sub at 4 ohm and get 150w rms from the amp, and when you want to upgrade to more subs you can wire the subs to get a 1 ohm load and get 500 watts rms.

Ok awesome, so the image dynamics ID10, IDQ20, or the Arc subs. And for the amp look into the hifonics brutus bx500d.

And the rest of my system is the alpine deck and alpine 6's in the doors, and 6x9's in the back.

Would it be worth it to get an addition amp for cheap to power the other speakers?

Also if i one day want to upgrade to a component set of speakers, will it be a problem considering i'll have 6' holes in the doors? Aren't most components only 5'?

The IDQ20 was a typo I meant IDQ10. Sorry. It would be a wise choice to get a 4 channel amp for the alpine speakers. If your not wanting a big sub system then it might be a good idea to get a 5 channel amp to power the whole system. 6 1/2" components are IMO better to have instead of 5" components. Ah ok, well what kind of amp would you recomend for that? I suppose with this method i could always in the future buy a seperate amp for the sub if i wanted to really thump it out.

Would this method provide me enough power to get some good sound out of it, or would it be quite weak?

If you recomended a 5 channel amp what would it be? what about a 1 channel for the sub, and a 4 channel for the speakers?

I've been looking at the website posted above, the ebay store, www.indoaudio.com, and it seems to have really good prices.

If you get a dual 2 ohm sub you need an amp that will do 250-300 wats at 1 ohm or at 4 ohms. If you get a dual 4 ohm sub you will need an amp that does 250-300 watts rms at 2 ohm's.
