I'm looking to upgrade the stock speakers on my 1998 Camry LE and I can't decide if I want to do component speakers or 2 or 3-way single speakers in the front.
For components, I'm interested in the Polk 6750 set, which has a 6 3/4" woofer and a 1" tweeter. I'd like to place the tweeter up by the side-view mirrors, but I'm concerned that placement may be too far away from the woofers at the bottom of the door. Anyone have any experience/input on this placement?
For a single speaker, I'm interested in the Infinity Kappa 652.5i 2-way.
As a side note, I'm also thinking about getting Polk db690 6x9" 3-ways for the rear deck.
Well I dont like neither one, for that kind of money you can go with CDT's which have a very nice sound. components are better than coaxial IMO, seperating the tweeter from the woofer does create an image problem because the tweeter is closer to your ears than the woofer, in which the tweeter might sound too rich, this is usually corrected with the passive crossover, most of them have an attenuator built in so you can correct this. Hope this helps

Hmm... I like the CL-61T components they make, and they're on TheZeb.com for cheaper than the Polks. Heck, I could even throw a CL-6X into the rear deck if it will fit (it's either 6" or 6.5"... I can't tell).
...must....stop...drooling...
My one concern is that the CL-61T mids are 6.5". Crutchfield says that the Gen4 takes a 6 3/4" mid in the door. Will these fit in the Gen4 Camry, or do I need to find/make an adapter plate?

if you want softer high's get the silk tweeter vs the titanium. you will be ok with 6.5, some woofer are bigger than other, but I made baffle with 1/2" MDF, which you should do anyway to eliminate rattles on the door.

That sounds simple enough. I was thinking about grabbing a metal bracket from Crutchfield or CarDomain, but I wasn't able to find a lot of good feedback on the brackets, and MDF should be easy enough to cut and will be much softer and give less rattle.
Methinks I'll give CDT a shot in the front (CL-62 component) and rear (CL-6X 2-way full range). Hopefully I'll remember to update this post after I get 'em and install 'em.
Thanks for the feedback, eddiem!

I too, have a 98 Camry LE and just ordered some Infinity Reference 9602i 6x9 for the rear deck. If I like how they sound, then I will probably go with the 6 1/2" version for the doors. Polks are awesome, too. I don't think you can go wrong with either.
I am pretty sure that most speaker mfgs realize that 6.5 will be used in place of 6.75 and make a hole pattern on the 6.5 speaker that will fit 6.5 speakers.
I ordered sets for the front and rear yesterday from Main Street Audio (one of their approved online vendors). I should be able to install them in a couple of weeks.

Maybe so, but I'm loving that my set of Kappa's only cost me $110 instead of the $200 you see for NIB CDT's on Ebay!

I have to agree with you toysrme. Infinity is a great product and I have always been very pleased with them as well as Polk.
CDT may be a better speaker, but I will go with what is a little more economical since I don't exactly have money running out of my ass and nothing else to spend it on.
I actually found the CL-62 component set at Main Street Audio (http://www.mainstreet-audio.com/) for the same price ($150). The only difference is a higher max power rating, but I figure I'm going to upgrade the head unit and add an amp eventually, so I might as well get something with a little more room for power. :-)
Also on Main Street, I got the CL-6X for $58. Total damage for from component and rear fills - $208, with no tax or shipping. Seeing that I was willing to spend more on Polks, I look at this as a bargain!
I actually should receive the speakers tomorrow, and I'm planning on installing them this weekend. I can't wait to hear them!

right on riggs, a smart shopper. for a few more dollars, they smoke many of the mainstream speaker lines that have everyone going to there infamous best buy and circuit city.
Machman, you couldnt afford 30 more dollars? (thats the price difference)
