mixing components

Is there anything wrong with mixing components. How would a component set sound if I bought:
MB Quart tweeters,
Diamond Audio Midranges,
and CDT phase perfect crossovers

The tweeter levels can be adjusted so that the volume of the tweeter and the woofer sound the same.
And as long as each speaker is able to play the frequencies up to the crossover point, shouldnt it sound good or better than buying the complete component set?

build and tell us how it sounds, many people do DIY component sets and save a ton of money and blow away alot of the manufactures stuff.

Do ALOT more research before you just try to build your own component system. You should probably go into even less known brands than those, although the CDT crossovers aren't too bad. From my experience, MB Quart tweeters are too bright and Diamond Audio midranges lack midbass...

Yeah, not as bad as brands like Infinity but there's drivers of the same size out there that'll put out more midbass.

Diamond audio speakers sound pretty good to me. And its NOT due to its tweeter because the crossover is at 4+khz and I have a diamond audio tweeter and it sucks compared to my mb quart one. so...my conclusion is that diamond audio speakers must sound good due to the woofer.

sounding good and lacking midbass are completely different things... you would have the absolute best (if there is such a thing) 4" speaker and it would most likely lack midbass.

Actually, I was goofing on you saying midrange speakers lacking midbass. Sort of like saying tweeters lack midrange or bass. Oh well, so much for my weekly ribbing.

Mauibuilt, if you are going to set up your own custom components, you ought to look into using raw drivers and having a custom passive crossovers made/spec'd for your particular install. You will most likely save a bundle of money and end up with something fantastic sounding.

Look to these sites for the drivers/crossovers:

http://madisound.com/
http://www.solen.ca/

The fellas at this forum really love talking about DIY components. Educate yourself for free here:

http://forum.sounddomain.com/

Finally, the CDT crossovers you have may have compensation circuitry, et al.. that are geared for a CDT set. Using other drivers may not give you the best results.
