i built this box that has 2 12" subwoofers on the ends and a small chamber for 2 5 1/4" high range speakers in the center. there is this rattling noise comming from the box when the subs hit. im thinking its my high ranges in the center being vibrated too much from the 2 subs on both sides. does anyone have any suggestions?
no, they are all seperate....except the 2 5 1/4's they share the same chamber- didnt think it would matter cuz those speakers usually go in a door right?
yes correct volume and everything, i had some math nerds in my government class double check it all. and yes the box is sealed correctly. it was just an idea to put those high ranges with my subs. since i cant seem to get them to work im going to take them out, cut out a somewhat weird design involving the 2 holes. then put a capacitor and a blue neon inside the small chamber....might as well since the speakers wont work and i need a capacitor...might as well make it look cool. thanks for the help
Okay, when you calculated the volume for the subs did you account for the displacement of the woofer itself? In other words, if the driver asks for a 1.2 cubic foot enclosure did you make it exactly 1.2 cubic feet or did you make it 1.5 cubic feet?
I think it just one of the joints isnt completely sealed, I had the same problem when a car shop built my box (never again) Every time I turned up the bass I get a nasty vibration noise from the box, I found out a section of the box was loose, they nailed gunned it down to fix it, idiots.

box building means building, sealing, testing, then sealing again... i'd get a bass CD that has continuous tones and feel for air passing around the corners of the box. Use silicone to seal it up. That or screw loose sides securely.
Those 5.25 speakers weren't in the same chamber as the subs were they, i couldn't understand your description. If they were, the subs pushing air may have made them rattle, however there are a ton of other things that rattle for that matter.
no, the small speakers werent in the same chambers as the subs. everything is separate. i figured out what the interference was....i had a long wire going from the terminal to the speaker that was hitting the cone of the speaker beneath it. i have it all sealed up with silicone and screws so no worries there, unless air leaks around the subs.
Ah, wire will do that. Some speakers have a spot to lace the wire so that the wire wont ever move into a spot to rub aginst the cone.
If you keep having trouble with vibration, you may try a vented design. In other words, cut a hole in the top of the box and put a vent-tube in to allow the speaker to better flex. Some speakers work better and louder in that setup. It does sacrifice some deep-ness, but if you want loud bass, you wont miss it much.
I have built a few sealed, ported, and bandpass boxes all using 3/4" thk MDF and they all sound good in certain applications.
If you drive a truck (t100?) then i'd say stick with what fits. Truck cabs are sound chambers, much louder than in most cars.

DO NOT DO THAT to the existing enclosure you have, it will not sound good, if you want a ported enclosure, build it to specs from scratch.

alright, i have sanded down the cutouts for thesubs and carpeted the box and it looks nice but every time my subs hit i hear a pop come from the smaller speakers.....prob not the best idea to put those there huh? any ideas as to what to do?
the problem you are having is that those speakers sound like they are running full range, you need to high pass through your HU at 80Hz. the smaller speakers are trying to play a frequency that it was not designed to play.

hmm....my door speakers are the same size and brand....they dont pop....but it looks like im going to have to run wire from the door speakers to the small ones in the box?
