eq opinions

I'm thinking about adding an eq to my system, I already have the dph7500z as a signal processor, but I think an eq would help, plus add extra xover tweakability. what are some recommendations. I can get the PPI eq31 and the phoenix gold eq 215 ti for pretty cheap, but I need some help/opinions please

do you want a basic 10 band or a high end 30 band?

Don't buy equipment because you think it might help. Buy if you have problems that need to be solved and you cannot address it with your current set-up.

In my system, my midbass lacks snap, the vocals aren't rich enough and the top end lacks shimmer. I doubt it is due to the front stage installation as my 8's are in sealed enclosures and the waveguides are in the proper spot. After having this set-up for the past year or so, I've concluded that:

A) I don't have enough power. I will address this next year.

B) My RMB8's, though nice, lack the range to properly mesh with the waveguides. I am looking to replace them, probably with Dynaudio 170's.

C) I need some EQ to correct my frequency response. I have just bought an Audiocontrol DQX and will have it installed in a couple of weeks. I will let you know how it has improved my system.

Enough about me.

97avalonxls, what problems do you have with your audio system that would make you want to buy an EQ?

I have a hole, or rather a band lacking intensity just above the tweet cross point, at around 3500, and I want to try to better blend my midbass with the subs, so i'll be biamping the comp set to get mor econtrol of the woofer and then have the eq to control the area between 80 and 120 (sub/mid crossed at 100) for smooth transition. Think it'll work for that application?

reverse the polarity on the tweets, that should fix your problem, do it as well for the sub, my sub and tweets are reversed, it opend up everything, blends very nice too. My hu has a parametric eq I have a major dip at 500-800, and spikes at 250, 2.5K, this is very common in car installs. So an eq is usually a must if you are going for a perfect SQ car. Setting phase and polarity on your system usually cleans up the majority.
