Fuse near battery

I'm upgrading my system to get a new amp and new subs. I am aware that the fuse near the battery should be equal to the sum of the fuses in the amp. My amp will have 3 40A fuses, so the fuse near the battery should be 120A. If I cant find any 120A fuses and dont want to wait a few days until I find one, can I just install two separate fuseholders a few inches apart with a 60A fuse in each one? Will that have the same effect? If that will not work, then what harm would it do to just have a 80A fuse in there for a few days? Thanks for your help guys!

no, you can't do that...because then a surge of more than 60amps will just blow the first one in the series and it'll cut out on you....

and there's nothing wrong with putting a smaller fuse on your power cable than the fuses on your amp....the chances of you actually pushing your amp to the limit is fairly slim....and it shouldn't surge enough to pop the fuse anyhow....

Just run an 80A fuse, it should be plenty. If you do end up blowing it, try hunting down a 100A AGU fuse.

Yea i was planning on using a 120A ANL Fuse...Circuit city is all sold out, best buy doesnt carry them, and other local car shops dont have them either. I'll take your advice and go with the 80A fuse for now...after all i have about 5 of them so if i blow one i can always replace it until i find a bigger fuse. That makes sense about blowing the first fuse if i tried to put two on there. Appreciate the help guys!

If you need an ANL fuse and fuse holder, don't buy from Circuit, they charge too much. Order from knukonceptz.com or sounddomain.com.

You can also use a circuit breaker instead of a fuse.

Circuit City charges retail prices for those fuses...and since I work there I can get them for extremely cheap. It'll cost more from the internet with shipping than it would cost to get it at employee discount if we had them in stock at CCity
