i just finished writing a paper on car stereo systems. i dont know if anyone would be interested in reading it. it basically describes the important factors to look into when buying a stereo system. well here it is. lemme know what you think. or if im wrong about something..
Making any major purchase should include an extensive amount of research done by the purchaser to assure that he/she is getting what she wants and needs. The same goes for purchasing a car stereo system. There are a couple of things that need to be addressed to make sure you are getting what you want. Those include the head unit, the subwoofers, the speakers, and the amplifier. These components all work together to produce a clean and clear sound. The most important information that needs to be obtained to make the purchase worth while is the amount of power in watts that you want the system to push… or expend.
The head unit, the brains of the operation, is one of the important items that need to be chosen carefully. This is because the wattage of the head unit can increase or decrease the quality of the signal that is being sent to the rest of the components. The head unit doesn’t have to be expensive but it does have to be quality work. Usually products like pioneer, JVC, Sony, and Kenwood all have decent head units for sale. Another important factor of the head unit is whether or not it has mp3 playback ability or video output. If you think you are going to be burning mp3 cds, it’s important to find a head unit that will control them properly. Another important component is the subwoofer.
You want the subwoofer that you choose to be powerful enough to blow you out of the water but not enough to get you pulled over of noise disturbances on a BUSY street. The subwoofer on average only needs to be pushing around 600 to 800 watts. You have to be careful who you buy it from because they could be deceiving you by telling you that the max power is 800 watts. Also important are speakers.
The speakers you buy can make or break your system. This is because they have to be of decent power rating and quality to get a clear signal. The speakers are an integral factor of the system. They are what send the signal to your ears. If they aren’t of decent quality, the sound will be greatly degraded. The amplifier is the back bone to the whole system.
Without an amplifier, the system is not nearly as complete and powerful as it could possibly be. The amplifier is responsible for pumping the signal from the head unit to the speakers and subwoofer. The average amplifier is rated at 600-800 watts of power. This is more than enough to push your system to its limits. Be careful not to exceed the power rating of any of the components or you risk blowing them out.
It can be shown above that a lot of important research needs to be done to make a quality sound system. It has been shown time and time again that if you take your time and make wise decisions on the products you purchase, the result will take your breath away. All these components work together in a unique fashion to prescribe to your ears the sounds they need to hear. It will be music to your ears, literally…
amen to that bro. however you made wanna end with a complete sentence... just my opinion... what is this essay for... whats your major (if you have one)??
Just a couple of suggestions. At the start of each paragraph aren't you supposed to put 5 spaces before the start of a new paragraph?

Also it might have been good to mention that one of the most important things to a good sound system is the quality of installation, and materials. I would have touched a little on different types of subwoofer enclosures and how they affect the sound of the bass. Ie sealed-clean accurate sound quality bass. Ported-louder less oriented to SQ. Bandpass- more geared towards loudness and punch.

thanx for the replies guys. ya, it was just an essay for english i wrote up in 30 min. i wasnt gonna get into real detail. I agree with what you said tho trd. also i have it indented on the paper just didnt really feel like formatting the thread. and my major is business. ill be back in colorado at csu pretty soon fo that one. O and trd, love the xrunner.
You may want to back up your info on wattage a little more... a balanced system would probably only need about 300-400w for bass. Also, depending on the car you may want more or less power (and explain the differences for sedans/coupes and hatches/SUVs). Also 600-800w is quite a bit of power, more than most stock alternators can handle at full blast.
You may also want to make a not on the how the quality of wiring can affect the system. Probably in the same paragraph where you explain how the quality of the install affecting the sound.

you might want to mention the goal of a stereo system, eg to replace the stock one, for competition, for spl, for sq etc. each goal has various different products that the user would choose.
