2005 Camry SE Headunit

Hi Guys,

Im new to the forum but I did some searching before I posted. I am attempting to replace my headunit in my 2005 Camry SE (I have a JBL Single Disc/Cassette). I really wanted to get the kenwood DDX 7015 and I saw that some of you recommended the eclipse double din in some of the posts.
A friend of mine works at ABT just outside of chicago and we talked to one of the installers there who didnt think the dual din unit would fit. Crutchfield also doesn't list the DDX 7015 as compatible with the 05.
I just want to know if the DDX 7015 dual din would fit in this car and if there is anything special I would need to do to achieve this (the installer was saying custom dash piece).
Thanks for your time.

The double DIN unit should work, you will most likely have to use the factory brackets, then make a cover plate since the opening is wider than a DIN size. The plastic pre-made dash kit only accommodates a single DIN, thus, double DIN will not work. I'm sure Abt could do it for you, but it may end up being a custom install costing more than what you want to spend.

Luc,
Thanks for the reply. I actually got my hopes up because I saw someone with an eclipse double din monitor installed in their camry but no word on what went into getting it in there.
I was doing some searching and found the american international TOY-k979 dash kit pictured on crutchfield and here. I then called my friend back at Abt and had him talk to one of the head installers who said it should install with that kit with little problems.
If not then, of course, they can install it and create a custom piece and charge me for labor which is $50 an hour.
Anyway thanks for the heads up and the confirmation that the double din will fit in the factory brackets as long as the gaps on the sides are covered.

Will do... I'm putting in tomorrow with the help of my friend
I don't think it will be as hard as it will be tedious with me and my friend working on it, and the references I got from Luc. Hopefully it will be cake.

UPDATE: The nav is in and the screen is in. It looks really good (haven't seen it on a really sunny day yet so I dont know how the glare will be)
The only issue I have is that the bottom of the screen sits flush with the dash kit, while the top of the screen sticks out a little bit because of the curvature. I would have rather had the top sit flush and the bottom kind of recess... but I think that may introduce a gap in the dash kit.
