2005 Corolla XRS H/U removal

I just bought a new 05 XRS and am loving it. I have an XM commander I took out of my old car and want to put into the new one. Does anyone have any hints for taking the dash apart? Coming from GM where all the plastic pieces fall off by themselves I barely see any seams in the corolla dash. Is it a big project to just pull out the stock head unit? Also, I have the six disc in dash player, i don't know if it is capable of driving an external 6 disc changer or if it just needs to have the 12 pin data port which i don't know if it has. Does anyone know if the PIE-TOY will work with my h/u to give me an aux in? I'd rather do that than FM modulate it.

Well after more looking it looks like the 6 disc indash isn't capable of using pie-toy-aux. Any hints on pulling the head unit out would be appreciated though

I have a 2005 Corolla LE and I have tried to remove the 6 Disc JBL HU. I tried prying the section with the vents out from around the radio but felt like I was going to break it if I kept forcing it. This seems like the only logical solution to removing it but I think I'll call the Toyota Service Department and make sure.

Once I've contacted them I will post if no one else has answerd by then.

I ended up taking my car to circuit city. I figured if they broke something they would be paying to fix. The piece that has the two vents does pull out but it is very tight. I would be afraid of cracking it if I pulled it out myself.

I learned that the HU comes out by starting down at the gear shift. The cover plate around the shifter snaps up easily... then proceed upward removing any screws and popping out the compartments (one small screw behind the fan controll knob which pulls off easily to reveal the screw)... eventually working your way up to the panel with the vents and the radio which has a few screws underneath it. Once you get that out you can remove the factory mount and install an aftermarket.

I found a couple of links to show pics of the HU removal process and one link that describes it in written detail as well...
