1993 Corolla Stereo Install

Hi all, im going to be getting my mom a cd player for her corolla for xmas and ill be doing the install, so i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to go about getting the stock one out of the dash. Also, im assuming that the stereo goes in directly since its a DIN sized opening(ie, no kit to make it fit)

yes i know i need a wire harness and am otherwise quite familiar with installing stereos

thanks all

You'll have to remove the trim around the radio. I'm not too familiar with the corolla's design but if it's the same as a 99 camry, you'll have to pull out the ashtray, cigarette lighter. Then pull on the bottom part of the trim where the ashtray was. It should pop out. You might have to remove some screws first though, so check for any before yanking on it.

IIRC, there should be two Philips screws under one horizontal beam of the bezel. There may be two more somewhere also. Once you remove those and the ashtray, you should be able to pry it out, disconnect the plugs to the cigarette lighter, emergency light, and defroster. You should see 4 bolts holding the brackets down. Use an 8mm socket if the Philips screwdriver is stripping the threads.
