im helping my friend install a stereo in his car, he got a clarion headunit and rear speakers, jl amp and sub in his a4. neither of us have any audio experience so it was a really overwhelming task for us after seeing so many crazy wires.... but we finally got the head unit, rear speakers, and the sub all working! his car and my house and garage are a mess right now and everything was ghetto-rigged just to see if we hooked it up correctly. we'll be finishing the job this weekend hopefully, hiding all the wires, soldering everything still taped together, and mounting everything. i learned a real lot about what all the wires do from this experience. ill take some pics of our project and post em up sometime this weekend. thanks to wortownsolara for helping us sooooo much!
yeah i had a damn cap., never installed it thought, what a wast of money. I lost that little fuse thing that comes w/ it though so it's probably no good. Cost about $100
all that "fuse" is, is a resistor... a lot of them will use a little light bulb... you can probably just pick up a resistor at radio shack to do it, but i forget what resistance you need. ask around on some car audio sites to find out.
Xevuthess, A4s are a bitch to work on... it's not really a good car to learn on. They have factory amps that need to be bypassed... so basically you're best off just redoing the entire system. Tap power and ground wires from behind the stereo, and run new speaker wires to all the speakers (or tap into them in the kickpanels so you don't have to go through the grommets).

it wasnt too hard. bypassing the amp wasnt a problem because we got new rear speakers anyways so we just took the old ones out and ran wires directly to the head unit. everything is finished now, and everythign works and sounds great! good first project
