Canada Anyone Have Experience With Prostart Remote Starters?

Hey,

I was thinking of picking up my dad the Prostart remote starter that is on sale at Canadian Tire this weekend and I was wondering if anybody had any experience with this name? The vehicle alread has power door looks on all four doors, is this going to be a problem?

One more thing, how does it work? You start your car with the remote starter w/o the key in the ignition, now how would you be able to put the car in drive? Do you have to put the key into the ignition and turn it to "start" and then go to "drive"?

wow, i thought it said "Pornstar Remote Starter' for second there, got me all excited.

Anyways, i dont know about that brand, but yes you do have to put the key in the ignition once you get in the vehicle. On the one my friend has, if you push in the brake without the key in the ignition then the engine stops, it amkes nifty anti theft device.

Installed that brand on one of my wife's cars worked well for the three years we had the car. That said .. will I vouch for anything sold by Canadian Tire? ... no.

You can start the car with the remote but must have the key in and turned 'on' before you can drive. Otherwise as soon as someone touches the brake the car stops running. If the car hs been started with the remote it disables the start position so even if you do turn it to start you won't wreck your starter or ring gear.

Clutch bypass

You have to buy a special version which has an output wire to connect to duplicate the action of the switch on the clutch pedal. I am still trying to find out if the switch goes direct through ignition or if there is a relay as per most Japanese cars?

technically speakin, youll be able to use any RS on any MT cars. Its not safe to do so but ppl do it anyways.

if you think you "dont" have it in gear everytime you parl you ahead and take a risk.

the clutch is has a lil button switch right b4 the clutch pedal. most car have 2 wire system, some have 4 wires due to integration of cruise switch. a simple test w/ a dmm, you can get the polarity (mostly likely to be (-) ).

Prostart makes a good remote starter...have a unit for manual trannys as well..on the deluxe model u can wire in the remote to lock/unlock the doors as well as arm the Prostart alarm.
For great wiring diagrams on any of the vehicles go to www.bulldogsecurity.com .. will ask for make and model/year...very easy to follow and they lay out what wires do what and where they are located..also has a special section for factory alarms and power door locks.

Viper/DEI is definetely the best. Hands down. However, if your pockets are empty (like mine) then you could get something kind of cheaper. I got a Autopage RS-855. I have had no problems at all. Easy to install and reliable. I only paid $160 and I got the alarm, remote start, and 2way LCD screen. A good buy.

Pro Start have the worst installation manuls I have ever seen --with same wires referred to as diffirent names etc.
I am stuck on two wires -need to know if they MUST be connected & to what
They call it (-) arm ouput -- " max 500-mA ground signal when doors are locked by remote Thgis wire will go to ground 1/4 second before the LOCK pulse & go off after LOCK . It must be connected to the OEM arm wire (usually the door pin). Note the system also gives a rearm pulse on this wire after remote start" SO WHAY IS THE DOOR PIN - I CANNOT FIND ANY CAMRY REFERENCE USING THIS TERMINLOGY?
The other they call (-) disarm output -- Max 500mA ground pulse when the doors are unlocked by remote control. Connec to OEM Disarm wire of vehicle. Note the system also gives a disarm pulse on this wire before remote start " CAMRY REFERENCE?? THEY SEEM TO BE RELATED TO A SELECTABLE FUNCTION CALLED SECURE LOCK So I THINK I'M ok NOT WIRING THEM?
