6.5" Speakers

Anyone have any suggestions for 6.5" speakers. I am going to be replacing the stock rear speakers in my 91 Camry. I have a 20Wx4 Sony receiver. I was thinking of going with a pair of Pioneer Ts G670. Walmart has for $68.74

I want it to sound good, but I don't want to go crazy price-wise. (Probably wouldn't want to spend over $100-$120)

Don't know too much about car stereo stuff so any advice will be appreciated greatly.

Should I get a small amp?

getting a small amp would take you out of your price range. just go with those Pioneers, they are just about the best your gonna get for the price.

I wouldn't mind spending extra for an amp if it would make a big difference...

IMO the way I would upgrade is by getting a nice set of speakers up front and not run any speakers in the rear at all. Buy a decent 2 channel amp to power the front components and get a single 12" sub and amp.

all depends how big of a difference you want and how deep your pockets. but if you just want decent sound at normal volumes....stick with just getting a replacement set of speakers

Spend a little more and get the Polk MOMO MMC650s, great speakers, sound great even off just headunit power. Pioneer speakers are hardly even amp worthy as they don't handle too much power.

pioneers are good if your not looking to spend more than $100. although 6.5" speakers u can get alpines for about that much...or even infinitys. a Sony 80Watt radio wont push out much more power than a factory radio would...u can get a $99 radio that would put out 200 Watts of power. but replace speakers first...

I agree Pioneer has been around for years. They are probably the biggest bang for the buck.

Thanks for the input everybody. I ended up going with The Pioneer TS-G670M. Got it at Wal-Mart for about $70 with tax.

It is a 4-way speaker. 220 Watt max. I am not sure if it is a Wal-Mart only model, but this one looks like it is close...

They sound fine, but only slightly better than the originals. I expected a little bit more of a difference.

How much power is going into these speakers from my receiver (20wx4)? How much should I have going into the speakers ideally? (The box says "Maximum Music Power - 220w, Nominal Power - 50w)

im gonna assume that your deck is kinda old, but 20x4 is enough to run them. a newer deck like an Alpine or Clarion might make them sound a little better because they will be getting more power and they have more sound adjustment than older decks. but then if you think about it.....your gonna be in a loop cause if you buy a new deck, you wouldnt really wanna keep using those Walmart speakers, you would wanna make the best outa the new deck. this is how it all begins

Not even close at least when you give them some real power.

the Polk DBs will handle more than the MOMOs. ive had them both man, believe me, your paying alot more for 95% looks. same tweeters, almost identical crossovers. mids have different cone material, thats about it.

i think the RMS rating for the DBs is only like 20 watts less then the MOMOs, but i know the peak for the DBs is alot more

maybe you have older dBs (which are even better than the current MOMOs)? I have the current ones all day and I'll tell you the cones are somewhat flimsy, unlike the MOMOs.
