i don't know if kicker is over rated, people down talk them all the time. I think they are just inferior. at least to the afformentioned brands. I will definately be heading twords adire or ID, or evel a new jl w1, just cos the price is right.
But the inferiority of kicker to top of the line brands doesn't meand that they are bad woofers, just that there is better out there.
I installed a preamp, as in for a guitar, not a processor, into my car so I can play my gitar, bass in the vehicle system. I know that the subs do a damn fine job reproducing the 80 110 range at the bottom of that bass guitar. (I raise the xover on the subs for guitar time, they're usually crossed at 90) I still agree with the shiva call and the hifonics eddie, i was just offering another budget solution.
jbl gt1 is a nice sub from what I'm told, i think that properly powered it might exceed your price range. I don't know though, I have no first hand experience

. I know that my fifteens sound really good right now in their sealed homes. Not sq comp good, but considering that they are what i have, they do fine.
