Best audio set-up for under $500

I need 4 speakers, an amp to get the most out of them, and an MP3 headunit, all for under $500. Any recommendations?

I'd hold off on the rear speakers or upgrade them later if you have to.

Do you already have subs?

I don't need components. Just 4 6.5" speakers. I'm thinking Pioneer?

Also what makes that amp so great?

Also what is the difference between that Premier DEH-P460MP and a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP?

Not really, and they sound much better than coaxials, definitely worth the extra $$. The amp is great because its bang for your buck. you want to buy a kicker (pioneer, kenwood, alpine) amp that cost twice as much and performs less than the elemental, go for it.

Actually I'm just thinking if 4 of these speakers and this one amp are a good combo. That way I could get Best Buy to install it for me, as I have no idea how to wire an amp. Speakers I might be able to do, but an amp I can't put in myself.

Then again, how much will that amp do for me? Maybe I should skip it and just go with the speakers RMS, in which case maybe I should get the Sony as they are 55W RMS against Pioneer's 35.

Yea I guess I'll get the 4 Sonys with the Pioneer 50Wx4 HU. Or should I get Pioneer with that HU? Or should I get the amp too?

Help me out, I know nothing about audio.

Pioneer.

Don't buy from Best Buy. You don't want them working on your car regardless.

Why is the Pioneer better? Sony has the higher RMS after all. (I decided to screw the amp cause I have no $)

Also, the head unit is 50 watts to each speaker, so is that 50W plus RMS wattage of the speaker, or what?

That 50watts is if you live on the moon. Only martians will ever see that 50 watts. It's more like 18-22RMS, depending on the headunit. And the Sony's suck because the build and sound quality is subpar to the Pioneers. RMS rating is just the amount of power it can handle, doesn't have anything to do with sound quality. There are some expensive high end component sets that can't much more than 50RMS... it doesn't mean they sound worse than a set that can handle 100RMS.

You don't need 4 speakers just 2 really good components. Invest in a good set of components and have them professionally installed. Trust me you will get tired of the cheap pioneer speakers and amp. The elemental design amps send out more CLEANER power than a pioneer amp. If you don't want to have the tweeter mounted separately than look into the braxial cdt speakers or the Image dynamics chameleons. These are component speakers that allow you to mount the tweeter in front of the midbass speaker. You'd end up spending as much money on 4 coaxial speakers than two really good component speakers if you go with those pioneers.
