What sort of headunit(CD player) do you have? You are going to need a headunit with RCA preouts if you want to wire up the amp and subs properly.

And are you looking to have filler bass(sound quality, and loud enough so you can tell there is bass), or are you going for that make-the-old-man-living-on-the-top-floor-of-the-old-people-home's oxygen tank to burst(loudness)?

The Image Dynamics IDMAX will give you better sound quality than any Rockford sub and probably put out more SPL too. The 10" sub goes for about 269. Probably more than you wanted to spend but you will be happy. I would stay away from all of Fosgates stuff, there is alot better out there.

Some owner reviews

Also if you don't want to go that extreme with the IDMAX then look into the IDQ's

Since you seem to be on a budget, I would recommend 2 10" Kenwood KFC-W2509 in a slot ported enclosure, with 1.5cu' per chamber. As for amp I would recommend Viper D300.1 Monoblock.
