No sound from speakers

My passenger side speaker wasn't working (stock), so I tried replacing it with a 4 ohm 40 watt speaker (didn't replace drivers side yet). After playing fine for about an hour, all the speakers just went silent. I replaced the speaker by detaching the speaker wire directly off of the old speaker then saudering (spelling?) them to the new one. Did I do something wrong, or any ideas what the problem might be? I'd appreciate any help.

If it's all the speakers, then it probably means you wire that one speaker ok. I think it's spelled soldering by the way. Does the headunit still work? If not, then check the fuse. If that's not the problem, check the wires out of the Headunit maybe.... Seems weird that they worked fine for about an hour and then just stopped working. Did you do anything at the point where they stopped working? Like touching wires, changing the volume, or anything else like that?

The head unit still works. This has happened twice actually since I installed it. The first time, I was turning the volume up to see where the sound got scratchy. It stopped working for about half an hour, then I tried turning the radio on again, and it worked. Then, after the car was turned off and I started it again, they weren't working again. They haven't come back on since (about 5 hours). It isn't just the one speaker that goes out either, but all of them, just to clarify.

okay, I figured it out. The way I mounted the speaker was shorting it through the chasis of the vehicle. Thanks.
