Blown Amp - but why?

im pretty sure my amp is blown....but im not sure why, or for certain that it is blown. i was listening to my music at a low volume, and all of the sudden a loud constant distortion noise came through my subs...i looked at my amp and it was clipping and then it cut off and on real quick and did it again a few seconds later. why could this be? my 1.2 farad cap had 14.6V reading on it....would this have anything to do with it? does it hurt to have more than 12V there? havent tested the subs yet...i was planning on getting a new amp anyways, so when i get that new amp i'll listen to the subs to see if theyre blown

yea - i checked all three fuses in the amp as well as the amp coming from the battery.

maybe i should give some more details about it as well....its an infinity 1200W (peak) mono amp with three 40A fuses in it...i have a 120A fuse at the battery.

EDIT: the night before, i had turned my amp up louder than usual, but only for about 10 seconds or so...and after that for the rest of the night it worked fine. my factory 6x9 speakers were popping (and still are sometimes when i turn it up) but i didnt care cuz im replacing them this week anyways.

Cool

You lost the audio signal to the amp.

how would that happen though? I've never had trouble with my RCA Cables, and theyre not cheap-ass RCA's either - i checked the rca connection on the back of the radio as well as the back of the amp...they were plugged in and all...how else could i lose a connection?

Maybe you blew your rear speakers which is causing them to ground out and make your amp go into protect mode? Try disconnecting them and see how it works.
