My amp will just randomly cut off. It will be working fine, then it will just die. No protection light, no fuses blown, no nothing. It just cuts off, and then it wont work for a few days. Its not clipping, as i turned the settings down pretty low to be sure it wasnt doing that. it hasnt overheated. and i checked the connections and all were fine. i even regrounded it to a different bolt on the car just to be sure.
why is my amp so freakin random?

Typically, it could be one (or more) speaker may be shorting out, thus, sending the amp into protection mode. Use the process of elimination to find out which speaker (or wires) may be bad by disconnecting them from the amp's terminals.
wouldnt that trigger the protect light on the amp?
when the amp begins working again, i get a big "thump" from the subs when they cut back on too. they will be off for a few days, then all the sudden it goes THUMP and i have bass again, scares the crap outta me sometimes!

i had something similar happen to me with my deck. it turned out the positive wire going to one of the tweeters was coming loose and touching bare metal on the chassis, shorting out the deck and shut it off momentarily. i dunno if that helps any...
you never said what brand or model amp you have, but assuming you have checked all connections at the amp and at the battery, all i can think of is a malfunction within the amp itself. ive seen this happed twice before with cheap amps (Profile and Jensen) not sure if you have one like this or a good one, but i would try swapping the amp out for a week or so and see what happens. you said it will cut out and stay off for days and then turn back on, so just take the amp out and put one it you know works fine. leave it in for a week and if the problem dissapears then you know you have a faulty amp. if the problem persists with the amp swap, you have alot of trouble shooting to do.....
the amp is a Kicker KX600, so its a good company but, this is the second amp that ive had problems with from them. the first was sent back for blown moseft transistors, but now im outta warrenty.

That's wierd.... back when I had my Jensen, it did that (yeah, I know, Jensen's crap). Turns out the positive wire had come out of the spade connector and shorted to the metal under the seat. I fixed the problem (protection light was lit) and the amp refused to come out of protect mode. When it finally did, it was only for a few min, then it went back into protect mode. Took it back to Best Buy, got my money back, and bought a MTX from Circuit City. Much happier as a result But yeah, check all your connections. You could try contacting Kicker, too. Good luck!

what problems did the first amp have, any symptoms like what your experiencing now?

The protection light would indicate a definite short circuit somewhere, but if the short is in somewhat of a floating state, the electronics may not indicate it definitely.
Since you are using subs off the amp, you should make sure the subs present a 4-ohm load to the amp. I've seen it occur before with Kicker amps where there just isn't enough current to run 2-ohm mono, thus either popping the fuse, or shutting the amp down.
Ok, the problem has returned, the amp hasnt worked for more than 10min in over a week.
i pulled the speaker wires and made sure all my connections were clear, and i tested my subs on another amp, so i know the subs work.
why is it doing this? The amp worked fine for almost a month, not a single problem, then last week it just shut off, the amp powers on, the green "OK" light is on, no blown fuses, no shorts that i can find, nothing! Yesterday i started the car up, and the amp worked for about 10min, but when i turned the car off and tried it again later, it was dead again!
