Trim Modification

So I've got to trim some trim, and i was wondering what might be the best way to do it. I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but i figured its my radio trim, so i'd try here.

Inside my Gen2, there's the big plastic piece that goes around the radio, ash tray, heater controls, etc. So i went to put the new HU in today (Pioneer 3600) and with the mounting kit on and bolted up, the radio is too tall to fit inside the hole in the trim. So is it easiest to trim the trim back to make it fit, or can i get a smaller pocket mounting kit, or....? It's maybe 1/8'' too high. If I do need to trim the trim, how should i do it? thanks for the help.

You don't need the trim that came with the Pioneer headunit.

It should look something like this

Those trim pieces are only used for cage mount stereos, not when you mount it in a standard ISO DIN size opening (Toyotas, Nissans, and a few others).

no no no.... wrong piece of trim. the one i'm talking about is the big black piece in the above picture, not the trim that came with the radio. even without the trim on the radio, the actual dash trim (piece that includes the cigarette lighter) won't fit over the radio, because it's about an 1/8'' too tall.

Try adjusting the storae box below the radio to get more room.

Did you mount the receiver in the right spot on the brackets?

It would be best if you could take a picture of this and post it up. Install the trim around the radio and snap the top and bottom into place after doing so.

What mounting kit are you using. You should be using the original brackets that came with the car.

i'll get a picture tomorrow in the daylight. i don't think there's a wrong way to mount the receiver, and i used the mounting kit that was previously on the eclipse stereo that was in there.

amazingly enough i'm mounting the same reciever in a gen 2 right now. I'm just sanding a little of the trim above the radio off and its working fine so far.
