Hello,
I recently bought a 1993 Toyota Camry SE V6, YAY, my 1st car.
It was geting too cold, rainy, icy, snowy to ride around on a motorcycle (Indianapolis, IN)
The car has a Sony FM/AM CD Player (CDX-L410X). I have a nice 20gig mp3 player (not for car, just a portable player, like IPod). Is there a way to make an auxilary audio input so I can play the MP3s trhough the car sound system?
there is no auxilary input on the factory radio, u can use an FM modulator to go through an unused FM Frequency like 87.9....but dont go with the wireless modulator cuz the quality sucks...
If the Sony headunit has changer controls, then it's possible to get a UniLink-to-Aux adapter, but that may cost >$50. If the Sony headunit has a 1/8" mini-jack as an auxiliary input, then you can feed your MP3 player through there.
no, there is no 1/8'' mini-jack.
What about taking out the unit, disasembling it and finding on the circuit board where audio from the radio or CD player goes to the amplifier (probably a build it amplifier).?
Sorry for my above thread - I guess I missed the part where you said you had a Sony radio, I thought you were using the factory radio.
I've never personally taken apart a radio for purposes like that - I would think that if you knew a good deal about electronics then you might be able to make it happen, but i would tend to think that it would be near impossible. someone correct me if im wrong...

I have a decent amount of knowledge about electronics, I might have to give this a shot. Maybe contact sony and see if they'll give me a schematic (probably not).
How hard is it to remove the unit?
How much of a dashboard do I have to take apart to do this?
its not hard to remove it - you can do it in about one minute - two minutes at the most. Pop off the U-shaped part of the dash that surrounds the radio and the pocket below the radio. it will pop off from the bottom where there are two clips holding it in place. You will then see four screws holding in the radio's brackets. Unscrew those, take out the unit - unplug the wiring harness and antenna from the back of the radio, and then slide the radio out of the cage.

I've seen the pinouts for the UniLink interface, and unless you can develop an Sony-like ASIC for the handshake, you're better off trying to find an adapter or just go the RF-modulated route.
Ok i took the unit out, and took it apart. It does not seem to have an amplifier??? is the amplifier somewhere else in the car? or does the unit output unamplified signal?
