What does the term "DIN" radio stand for, and what does it mean? Is it just a term meaning the same as OEM, and something to do with the opening? I know this sounds stupid, but not sure of the lingo.
Din is a size for the radio. They make roughly 4 sizes, Single DIN, DIN and a half, Double DIN, and i think Din Extra Long. Most cars have room for a Single Din unit. however, cars like the gen 3 camry have a single din unit installed factory, but have room for a double din. I just installed a touch screen dvd nav unit that is a double din unit. So i'll post some pictures later.

I'd be angry about that except I just got a 53" TV.

I think it stands for "Dutsche Industrie Nacional" or something like that. It sounds like the Dutch, a long time ago, made a holes in the dash and said "This will be the size of all holes in the dash from here on..." Therein after, any and all holes in car dashes of all nations were made in the fashion of the Dutch way.

Nope, Deutsch is German and DIN = Deutsches Institut für Normung or German Institute for Normatives (related to industrial standard sizes and measurements) much like ISO.
Why the german standard was used? I really wouldn't know the story, my guess would be that since the germans usually are ahead in the automotive industry (ABS, EFI and a lot of other stuff where developed by german companys) they decided they needed a standard for ICE units so they took the most used measurement (H=46 mm, W= 170mm) and recorded at the DIN. From there on most automakers adopted said size.
