silencer remote, changing battery

I have a 97 Galant ES and a stock security system. The remote says "silencer" on it and has an arm/disarm and a aux button.

I'm trying to change the battery myself, there is only one small philips head screw in the back, that is unscrewed and the bottom half of the remote is now free, I tried to pry off the two halves using a very small straight edge screwdriver to no avail, something is holding it together around the top of the remote.

should i be forcefull with it, will it come apart with a little more persuasion? or am i stuck with taking it to my dealer and paying an outrageous fee?

Try sliding the flat-head screwdriver near the end where the screw was. The opposite end probably has a tab-and-slot configuration to hold the two halves together.

Worst case - take it to a watch repair place and have them replace the battery. That should be pretty quick, and they'll probably have batterys for it.

got it, it had some snaps that i had to pry apart. the battery is no watch battery, it's like a half of a AAA battery and not a disc. but what i did was clean the dirty battery and contacts, and dusted the circuit board and now everything works good so far.
