Scion Head Unit on ’98 Camry

Hello all,

I’ve been reading on these forums for some time, and it seems you guys know your stuff. Well, there are many “slightly used” stock pioneer head units (taken off the new Scion cars) on eBay and I’m considering replacing my broken stock head unit with one of them. I drive a 1998 Toyota Camry LE and was wondering if you guys could help me out here. I did a search and it seems that all Toyotas from 1988 use the same setup and there were some ECHO’s with the pioneer head unit; will someone verify that a scion head unit will fit and work in my car. I understand that there are better aftermarket mp3 head units out there but I’m on a budget and hopefully will get one for about $50 on eBay.

Is the installation complicated? Or could a car audio novice (me) with some instructions pull it off? Where could I get some instructions?

Is there anything else I should consider?

Thanks

As long as your Camry isn't an XLE or has the premium sound system, it should be fine, I think.

Yeah it should be fine, I've seen some people that have swapped those into the newer 4runner's as well. Not a bad deal for 50 bucks for mp3 player and it does 160 watts, so 20 watts RMS X 4.

Check out the classifieds section @ www.scionlife.com as well.

would it just be plug and play? or still need a harness?

the reason behind the stereo XLE is the AMP under the seat. those harness has 2 connects which you need to by pass correct?

where as the DX,CE,LE have 1 connecter?
