what kind of HU?

okay so what kind of head unit would you guys suggest? keeping in mind i have two subs and would like to connect my ipod to the HU. i know for sure there is an RCA cord for my ipod but i decided to stop fighting you guys about it. ill go with the AUX cord or whatever you were talking about. so i guess i need is a HU to power 2 12" subs (xplods) and 4 6.5"s (xplods) and capability of connecting my ipod. im looking to spend around 200...

oh yeah and i value your guys opinion about everything and i know none of you are fans of xplods but i like them so please dont give me any more shit about them.

anyway, thanx in advance for any suggestions

We weren't doubting that your iPod has RCA output's. We were trying to tell you that most cd players don't have RCA inputs to match up with your ipod. The guy with the 04camryse was saying that his had rca inputs, which I've never heard of. So if you want a deck that has RCA inputs than find out what Sony deck he was using and use that one, or another sony deck that has RCA inputs. I however would never reccomend a sony deck to anyone because they have been lacking in the quality dept lately.

Did you say you were planning on powering the subs off the headunit? If so that's not going to work. You are going to want to get an external amp that would match up to the subs in power output. What model are the sony subs, or if you know what is each sub rated to handle in RMS watts?

My reccomendation would be to get the Alpine CDA-9830 and get the KCA-420i interface. Gonna run you about 300 though.(ebay)

For under 200 this is a pretty good cd/mp3 player

this has three pre amp outputs. if i get this would i be able to hook my 800 watt amp to this and use this y audio cable or this y audio cable? i put two diff y cables cause i dont know which one or if either would work at all

What kind of transmitting wire are you using? Doesn't the iPod have a 1/8" jack output? Most auxilary inputs on aftermarket cd/mp3 players are 1/8" jacks, not rca inputs.

When hooking up an external amp from the RCA preouts on the cd player you are going to want to use an RCA cable, not a rca adapter to the amp. The amp has RCA inputs.
This is an example of what you would want to use.

And it's not a y adapter, there are two connectors on both side. Left and right. They are usually marrked red for right and black for left.

To connect your iPod to the Auxilary input on the cd player you are going to want to use the 1/8" jack output wire into the 1/8" input on the cd player. There is no use for an RCA adapter unless you actually have a deck that has RCA inputs, which I have never seen.

xrunner is right.
your best bet is to use a mini to mini cable(male to male). You can get a HU that has an aux input on the front of the headunit, or if you go with pioneer or alpine, they have adapter cables you can use(for pioneer it is the IP bus cable;for alpine it is the AI-Net cable).

A home stereo has RCA inputs. That adapter from moster that you linked is for a home stereo.
Car cd players do not have RCA inputs. They have a 1/8" input. iPods also have a 1/8" output. This is the correct cable you are going to need.

If by chance you find a CD player that has RCA inputs(which again I have never seen) then you can use the cable you are talking about. But if the cd player you chose is like every other CD/MP3 player that uses the 1/8" input for the auxilary then you will need the cable I reffred to.

see you said yourself thats what i want to use. those are exactly what im using, just a different brand obviously. and the other end is the 1/8'' jack that you were talking about and this side has two therefor it is a y-cable

Did you end up getting that Alpine headunit you linked, what kind of input does it have? I'm curious because I've never seen it done and it would be cool to know.

I'm not too familiar with iPods, does the iPod have rca inputs built in to it?

I was reffering to using a y cable for your amps, that won't work, you need to use a regular RCA cable with two connectors on each side.
