Ok, i have a kenwood cd player head unit thing... it has those hiding faceplates (ie it rotates to hide the faceplate) Normally, there are 3 positions the faceplate can be in: hidden, showing, and at a horizontal position which lets you slide it out before going to hidden mode. It normallie stops at the horizontal position for a few seconds to let you slide it out before hiding. (horizontal position is also for eject/insert a cd).
here is the problem.. one day, my car wasn't starting because it was really cold. my cd deck automatically unhides the facepalte as long as the car turns to the 'on' position. after a while of trying to turn the car on with no avail... i noticed the cd player wasn't rotating properly anymore... ie. the positions were all wrong. when the faceplate rotates to hide, it normallie stops @ a horizontal position which lets you slide it out. but now, it stops at an angle before the horizontal position. Sometimes it goes past the horizontal position when hiding without pausing only to turn backwards again and pause at an angle and then hide again. it also happened a few times where it almost hides, but then just goes back to open mode.
i know, it's hard to understand but that's the best i can do describe it...
then one day (being really stupid) i pressed the eject button to get my cd out... the faceplate is supposed to go to the horizontal position when you eject something. however, it stopped and an angle and blocked the cd.. now the whole thing is stuckk... any ideas how to fix it?

hmmm sounds like the easiest way, and hopefully would be to somehow reset it, i would unplug the entire power supply, let it sit for a couple mins and then turn the car on and try to see if it goes to the horz position, if it doesnt if you can squeeze the cd out try, break it if you have to and try reset again

Isn't that weird when you give someone the same advice at the same time?
not yet... it's too cold. can't open my hood. i'll try that in afternoon.. but i'm not sure if that would help rite now beacuase it's not turning @ all (faceplate) since i pressed eject (i think cd is stuck half way)
ok. i tried disconnecting the negative frum battery. The good thing is that the cd is not stuck anymore. The bad thing is that it still stops at the wrong positions and so i can't eject the cd >< any ideas?
That motor control is gone. Unless you can live with the angle tilt, it can't be fixed. It doesn't matter how many times you disconnect the power, it's the motor that's bad. That technology was just a POS, from Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, etc. Imagine how many times that motor has to work every time you start the car, put a CD in, take a CD out. Those small motors aren't made to last that long.
ca,2xrunner: when u say open button do u mean the eject button? do you think maybe if i disconnect the power from back of head unit instead of just the battery terminal it would make a difference?
luc: i kno those motor things will go over time but since the motor got messed up because my car wasn't starting would there be a way to fix it?
