Question 95 corolla alarm problems

my 95 corolla dx has an alarm system that i don't know anything about. im the second or third owner. i hear it beep every once in awhile when i lock it, but since i had the transmission worked on, it has caused the car not to start twice. the first time it just wouldnt let the ignition start, so i disconnected and reconnected the battery and it started up. this time i tried putting the key in the door locks and going back and forth, pushing the lock/unlock buttons, and putting the key in the ignition. by the time i disconnected and reconnected the battery it was dead from trying to start it so many times i think? the clamps that go on the battery posts are all tweaked too. are the battery cables hard to replace?

I'd post this on audio/video/security forum.

If the battery terminals are corroded, clean them up first, use a wire brush with some baking soda and scrub them clean, likewise for the clamps. The poor connectivity may be causing the alarm to behave weirdly. Changing your transmission should have no influence on the alarm.

how do i disconnect the alarm completely? i'm not too worried about the car getting stolen since the front is slightly bashed in and the roof is missing some paint. and since i dont know how the alarm works anyway. are all alarms the same to disconnect? how does it work?

Typically, you can just disconnect the brain and your car will still run. However, to be safe, just disconnect all the connections that run to the car from the brain. You'll have to reconnect the starter wire that should've been severed to wire in the starter kill relay; the starter wire should be black/white. But first, find the brain, and follow along all the wires to where it connect, and disconnect. Make sure you tape off any exposed wires.
