probably already been asked.. but does the 2001 Camry Xle have a factory amp under the seatfor the JBL system.. reason im asking is because my brother is concerned because he says it is hard to wire because u cant combind both the factory amp and the amp located within the Head unit.. in which case i will be using a Kenwood Mp-825 or something like that, cant remeber off the top of my head.. but i need to know if this car has one.. or anyone who has already put subs in this exact car before would be great..thanks in advance
It does have an amplifier, it is beind the glovebox. If the 2001 is like mine there will be another harness prewired already behind the cd player you can use that one to wire in the new cd player.
The amp is located behind the glovebox. You will either bypass the OEM amp and use Kenwood's internal (recommended) or use OEM amp and the preouts of the Kenwood. It would be retarded to amplify another amplified signal.
so how do i bypass the OEM amp so that im using just the internal Kenwood amp? also does that mean the the oem amp is basically useless.. would it be a good idea to just take it out instead of just bypassing it or would there be alot of man hours involved in removing it?

Bypassing the OEM amp basically means to disconnect a few harnesses. You don't need to take the amp out, since if you ever sell the car, you can just reconnect. Get a typical Toyota 2-plug harness adapter from, say, BB or CC, connect the wires between the harness adapter and Kenwood's harness, find the matching plugs that mate with the adapter, and connect. The matching plugs may be wrapped in foam, and are typically inside the radio cavity to the lower right.
The stock deck will have a funny plug. Follow that till you find another plug. That should be the one your aftermarket harness could plug into. Once you disconnect the plug, the amp will be disabled. Depends on the speakers setup, some speakers maybe disable too. On my Celica, the door sub will be disable with the amp.

Are we talking about the trim piece that surrounds the radio and HVAC controls? Cause if thats the case, it just pops out. Remove the ash tray, pull from the bottom til the bottom pieces pop off, then pull the top off. I would assume the HVAC controls to be mounted in the same manner as the stereo.

i have a GEN5 - no ashtray. yes, i'm talking about trim piece that surrounds the radio and HVAC clinate controls on an 02 Camry XLE? I've searched and haven't found any specific info for GEN5 Camry XLE. Thanks.
Most generally you should be able to just pop it out. I dont know that its any different. The air control is in there by a few screws or something so its all pretty easy to take out.
