Alpine 9847

I just picked up this deck today for my 98 Corolla LE. A lot of the features of last years CD-983X models have trickled down to lower models this year.

This one is list price $200 and plays mp3, WMA, CD-R’S, has three pre-outs, and is XM / Sirius ready.

Today at Best Buy it was marked down to $180 and I used a 10% off coupon, so I snatched it for $162.

The Alpine units are new at BB and they're not even on their website yet. It seems Circuit City lost or is at least sharing the business.

I’ll have it my car in about an hour, using this puppy

….and about 17 sets of these.

Well, I had a "crimping" party tonight. I pulled out my old JVC HU and threw the original Toyota tape deck in.

That fancy Panduit crimper ended up being a POS. Tried it a few times and each connector failed the pull test. My trusty Sears tool saved my butt, if not my wrists.

This is perhaps my fifth deck install and I'm happy I went with the male/female connectors to join the two wiring harnesses.

Now, I think I can switch decks, in any car in three minutes flat. []

I'll put the new Alpine in during lunch tomorrow - not much daylight in winter, you know.

First up, some Porcupine Tree !!!

bob, you're right.
circuit city is getting rid of their alpine line, and going with audiobahn's basic series.
As far as taking out a radio in 3 minutes, thats easy. Newer ford f-series trucks are the easiest; my best time is 9 minutes, including removal of factory unit, wiring up the harness with "butt" connectors, and slapping the new one in.

Cars with a Bose system or Infinity Gold system require an amp bypass when hooking up a radio, and Land Rovers? My god, for a land rover discovery usually u have to run new wire to every speaker just to put in an aftermarket radio because each speaker has its own built-in amplifier. its ignorant to say u can put any radio in a car in three minutes.

Circuit city is getting Kicker to replace the Alpine subs and amps...they will also be getting either Clarion or Eclipse

I blew it. It took me 7 minutes during lunch today. It sounds great.

My "any car" statement only holds true for my cars. I wouldn't touch a Bose system. So, I wouldn't have that barrier to overcome.

This is third time I've had this dash apart so I felt pretty safe in trying for my record.
