Problems with stereo after install. 93 Camry XLE

Hi,

I just installed a new stereo in my dads 93 camry XLE (with factory amp). I got a profile HU and profile 2 way speakers all around.

Profile CD7400
http://www.thezeb.com/p-Profile-CD74...ver-106478.htm

Profile CX620 6.5 2 ways
http://www.thezeb.com/p-Profile-CX62...ers-106483.htm

Profile CX920 6x9 2 ways
http://www.thezeb.com/p-Profile-CX92...ers-106480.htm

Wired the HU with a metra harness adapter. I ran into a couple of problems though.

1) When the car is off, I get perfect AM reception...but when the car is on, I get nothing but static from the AM reception. FM works fine. I remember that there were two plugs for the antenna for the stock cassette/CD radio (one standard antenna plug and one smaller one)...but the new HU only had room for the standard antenna plug...so I didn't plug in the other one. Could this be the problem? What wire is that?

2) I also notice that whenever I turn on the HU, the antenna will automatically go up. Is there a way to make to go up only when you are listening to FM/AM?

3) Lastly, the sound output between the rear and front speakers are way biased towards the rear. I had to set the fade to around 75% to the front before the soundstage returns to the front. All speakers have 93dB sensitivity....maybe I wired something wrong? I bypassed the stock amp already so that shouldn't be the problem.

Other than these problems, I must say, profile stuff are good bang for the bucks. This setup only cost me around $120. I am quite happy with the quality. So please give me some advice. Thanks.

1) The mini-plug is for diversity tuning. Since your headunit doesn't have an extra antenna input, you just leave it unconnected. Somehow your headunit is picking up noise from the car through AM mode. Try the unit in another car or try a new unit, this will either indicate whether the unit or antenna/cable may be bad.

2) If your headunit only has an "amp turn-on", without "antenna turn-on," then your antenna will always be up. There's nothing you can do about it.

3) Check all the wiring again, make sure none is touching the metal panel of the door. But this could point to a bad unit. Again, try it in another car if you have to.

Just remember, it doesn't matter how cheap they are, it's always GIGO.

I would check out that HU in another car. I know that if you don't have a antenna turn on then it'll always be up because you have to use the amp one.

This is a little off of the subject RPMK104, but I was just wondering how you bypassed the stock amp? I have been unable to do so.
