Sound Deadening Ain't No Game

Man oh man, 10 hours go by, two bathroom breaks, no food, 5 bottles of Bawls, and I'm not even finished yet.

Quick thanks to Cam for all the advice though.

I bought about 100 square feet of eDead v1SE. Sticky stuff, worked really well, even in the terrible cold winter weather. It even rained a few times throughout the day. When I began, I had no idea what I was really doing. And just started sticking pieces to the car and spent a lot of time flattening it out. By the end, I was pro at avoiding the holes that I covered up a few other times.

After every installation of a new part of the car, I took the car for a drive around the block and listened for differences. Instead of laying eDead on the ground, I bought some of the insulation for water heaters, quieted the car up quite a bit. The only thing I didn't fix was the bouncyness. My car is like a plush carpet right now... without the plush carpetting. But that's something I'll deal with for now.

Basically I did, trunk lid, spare tire wheel well, bottom of the rear seats with eDead, floors, and all 4 door panels. And I still have some eDead left (I'm curious why...), but for now I'm pretty satsified.

The only noise I hear right now is from the engine, which I'm wondering if there is a way to kill. I didn't run into nightmare problems like accidentally covering up my whole windshield or putting the matting over cables or anything. Everything went pretty smooth. Just lots of time and effort put into it.

I don't remember why I started this. So for now...

eDead v1SE

Should get my v3 next week so I can do my roof and the pillars.

How does water get into your trunk because of dynamat?

It's supposed to be like dynamat, only cheaper and if you buy the v1SE it's thicker. I pulled it from Cam's sound deadening thread. I also bought the V3 which is like sound deadening paint that I can just paint on. I'll probably end up covering my damening material with it later on.

It's really really sticky compared to some other stuff I've seen. I initially applied heat with a blow dryer, but I gave that up soon since it seemed so unnecessary and I had to keep turning my car around in the garage because I didn't have a long enough extension cord.

How much did you use to stop the rattling? I actually only have one full layer on right now, but I could add some more in the morning if you think it'd help. Still curious about the water problem too. Thanks.

Hey NRM glad I could be of help. I too spent the whole day matting my friends 05 prerunner, I put a good 4 layers in the front doors, 3 layers on the floor, 2-3 layers in the back doors, 3 layers on the back wall, 3 layers on the roof. I also lined the doors with this 1/2" thick packaging foam I found at work. I'm going to put 3 layers of 1/8" thick ensolite foam that i had left over from my camry on the flor on top of the v1se. It's going to be sweet.

I'd recomend doing at least 2 layers on your front doors, with 3 layers directly behind the speakers. I'll get some pics that I took of the progress so far later on tonight.
