6 1/2 or 6x9 up front?

Hello all
I have a 2003 Camry and I am looking to upgrade my front speakers. I already have a pair of infinity 6 1/2 coaxials that sound great. They even came with an external x-over to keep the sound clean. I want to install them in the factory location but have heard that speaker adapters rattle and I am better off just buying a new set of 6x9s. Anyone using speaker adapters?

You should make one of these.

6x9's will not fit in the front doors, if thats what ur asking. i've installed infinity 6 1/2 coaxials in 03 camrys before and havent noticed rattling, but if they do rattle, a little foam or eDead should take care of the problem

Marv can make you a set, mail him one of the baffles and he can make an MDF baffle that will work perfect.

6x9's up front? You can do it, but it doesn't mean it will sound good. You need smaller speakers up front.

you don't want 6x9. most of them today do not have the best cone material. Naturally, the oval shape will flex more than a circular cone. The uneven distribution of force will cause unwanted distortion.

6x9's are the devil as far as sound imaging and quality goes, but hey if you're feeding it power and all you want is loudness, by all means, go for it (that is, if they fit...which i seriously doubt).

my opinion: a solid pair of 6.5" or even 5.25" components up front anyday.

6.5's shoot put 8's - eddiem67 <- good idea but i'm not sure its what he's looking for.

as with what everyone else has said get a good set of components. however this should be made with correct matching of your power output and the speaker input. its no point putting some Morels that require 120WRMS if your still running your stock system. choose what matches your system output best.

what are you looking for by upgrading the front speakers? Bass/midbass/treble/etc...

and if there are any rattles, just put some foam under it, and if u have time knock up a mdf baffle

Cheers

wonder what you were smokin since it is a known fact that GEN5 Camry's have OEM 6x9s in the front doors, and aftermarket 6x9s fit also.

it's also fairly important to keep a good balance between mid, low, and high, and 6x9's in two places might just make the sound a little too deep..

Thanks for the input

I went ahead and got some 6x9 Kappas. They round out the front well and I am very satisfied with them. By the way I installed the 6x9s in my shallow doors by cutting away the cone from the stock speaker, mounting the Kappa to what was left of it, and simply rescrewing it to the door using the existing screws and holes. Very easy install.
