The three contenders (car stereos) for a 95 Camry...

I'm trying to make up my mind between three decks. Reason it is between these three is because I work at a distributor and we only carry JVC & Pioneer as car audio decks (if you don't count Coby & Blaupunkt).

It is for my girlfriend's car which has a pair of Pioneer TS-A6981R (6x9) in the rear and TS-1671R (6.5") in the front. Plans are to add an amplified 8" 200W MTX basstube in the future.

I personaly have a Pioneer DEH-P6600 in my car and I love the sound output.

The three contenders.

JVC KDAR5500

-Cool look in general, supposidly has good options, however I have tested this unit and it isn't all that great. Plus the price tag is so high because of the touch screen. RMS is only 18W per channel. Options are less configurable then the Pioneers.

Picture:

Pioneer DEH-P80MP
-Has a MOSFET60 instead of a MOSFET50 amp, which means 28W RMS speakers instead of the 18W the JVC has or 22W the other pioneer has. Does not have the new Supertuner IIID+ (just normal IIID) and no AAC support. Is motorized like the JVC.

Picture:

Pioneer DEH-P7700MP
-Supports Itunes AAC, new radio, however is not motorized. It is cheaper then the DEH-P80MP.

I am really leaning towards the DEH-P80MP... it has more useful features then the DEH-P7700MP, however the DEH-P7700MP remains a contender as that deck seems to sell out everytime we get 'em in. The KD-AR5000 is there because my girlfriend found it pretty but I heard the sound on it is so-so.

Did you look into the deh-p860mp or 8600mp? That headunit is awesome as far as control. A bit overkill if you don't plan to go amplified with some components, but if you do want to upgrade the speakers later it will be better than all of them.

If you don't plan on upgrading to amplifiers and components I would go for the deh-p7700mp. If you have the option to go with the Premier line get that, you get a 2 year warranty compared to 1 year as well as higher voltage preouts. But check out the deh-p860mp.

So no one would go for the DEH-P80MP. I have looked into the deh-p8600/deh-p860 but like you said it was a little bit overkill. However the DEH-P7700MP is much cheaper then the P80MP. The only reason really I was interested in the P80MP was because of the MOSFET60, however I like the looks of the P7700MP much better. My deck has EQ-EX, by pressing th EQ button and it makes a huge difference. Does the P7700MP have this as well (the EQ-EX function)?

On another note (but on topic) when removing the deck, I have to remove plate. It has two metal clips in order to hold it down. However one clip fell through and rather then ripping the entire center console to get a metal clip are these easily available at Napa, Autozone or ...insert store here...?

Don't know if you will find that one (never say never) Maybe you could use a magnet to grab it.

i cant give u a recommendation for a JVC with a clean conscience...ive always had bad experiences with them and i dont think theyre very reliable. i'd go with the PIO DEHP80MP cuz i think its hot especially being motorized, but i understand money is an issue and the 7700 is awesome too

So I will have to open up my console in order to retrieve it... damn that wont be a fun (and easy tak).

Actually John money isn't the primary issue. The cost for my distributor on the DEH-P80MP is $20 more than the 7700MP. However the 7700MP outsells it 2:1 easily. What I do miss on the DEH-P80MP is the fact that it is missing preset channel buttons (unlike the 7700MP which does have that function).

good point about the presets - i honestly didnt even notice that, simply because i dont even listen to the radio once a month, i just listen to CDs...but thats certainly something to take into consideration. if it were me i'd go with the dehp80mp, but u really cant go wrong either way

Looks like I am going to go for the DEH-P7700MP... thanks for all your help guys. I created a new thread in the Camry forum about the clip thing (and more cosmetic fixes, trying to keep it all in one thread), so wish me luck.
