i went with a kicker solobaric s8l7 and an mtx thunder 801d
the amp is 400x1 at 4 ohms, the sub is 450watts rms dual 2ohm voice coils.
now all i need is all the wiring, fuse, line output converter and god knows what else.
does anyone feel like telling me exactly what it is i need to buy to get this working in my 05 taco double cab. i plan to install behind the rear seatback.
thanks a lot guys, and will post pics as soon as i get the stuff in, which hopefully will be in 2-3 weeks.
That's going to sound really good, for an 8" Good choice on going with the stronger amp, if you ever want to go with another 8" L7 it'll be able to handle it. But for now the amp will never be running hot or ran hard.
ok, so i order one of the amp kits, one of the rca cables and how much of the speaker wire?
it says each unit only costs .80 how much is each unit? and how many do i order?
as for the mdf, im gonna do some reading cause the guy that i have lined up for the install ive seen using plywood. im gonna see if i can get him to use the mdf, which shouldnt be a problem as long as i buy the piece and take it to him. or maybe i should just build the box myself. im not sure yet what to do because i know he doesnt calculate anything, he just eyeballs it. but i have never built a box. so either way i figure ive got around two weeks until i get my stuff in the mail and ill use that to try and find some mdf and maybe start building the box.
Hey no problem. If this guy has been building boxes with plywood, then I wouldn't trust him at all to build you a box. The screw's don't hold well into plywood and the plywood is more flexible than MDF, it will flex and you'll get bad sound out of it.(trust me on MDF) Try it yourself, you should have enough wood out of one sheet to do another box if you mess up on the first one. I'm not sure on the best interior airspace volume to use for that sub, I'll do some reasearch and see what the best amount is. If you want I know a VERY good box builder that will build you a box. You just have to take the measurements of the available room you have behind the seat. He isn't the cheapest guy around, but definitely one of the best.
As for the wiring, each unit is 1ft long. Are you planning on mounting the amp under a seat. The driver's seat will be the best place to mount it if that is your plan. The passenger seat on the '05 Tacoma's has a bar that hangs down and will hit the amp when moved back and forth. Double check the dimensions on the amp to see if it will fit underthe seat. Otherwise you will have to mount the amp on the back wall.
If mounting the amp under the seat you will probably need no more than 10 ft of speaker wire for the sub.

cam i was planning on just mounting sub behind rear seatback. how much speaker wire would i need?m im guessing 2 feet is probably more than enough.
i think ill just try and build the box myself. im a hard worker and a quick learner. ill build it myself and have him carpet it for me, prolly cheaper than buying fabric and glue.
The amount of speaker wire needed is dependant on where you plan on putting the amp. 2 ft is only enough for the wring inside the box They are dual voice coils so you'll need to split up the wire to wire each voice coil.
So, where do you plan on putting the amp? And make sure you get a little extra speaker wire. You'll regret not having enough. 10 ft should be enough to mount the amp wherever you want in that truck. It's not that expensive anyways.
Actually, if you remove the passenger seat...there is a perfect spot for the amp. I did it on my 98..and I tell you, I felt guilty about putting the seat back on because it looked so nice there, and no one kicks it, hits it, or gets it wet there too..factors for consideration. Seatback location is a good spot too though
You'll need a line output convertor. Go to www.davidnavone.com Get the ne774v if you want to be able to use that for the front component amp as well. If you don't plan on getting an amp for the speakers, then just get a good 2 channel loc from there.
I installed the ne774v right behind the factory CD player. The cd player is pretty easy to remove. Get a thin flathead screwdriver and carefully pry up the bottom of the climate controls for the ac/heater. The control panel will pop off and you will have access to four bolts holding in the cd player. They are 10mm bolts. Take those out then pull on the bottom of the cd player. It will pop off. Pull it out and you will have access to the wiring.
Front left + is a pink wire
Front left - is a purple wire
Front right + is light green
front right - is blue
Rear left + is black
Rear left - is yellow
Right rear + is red
Right rear - is white
The turn on acc. lead that you can tap into for the amp is a very thin grey wire. There are two of them however. To find the right one i turned the car radio on and snipped the first grey wire, the radio turned off, so I knew it was that one.
On the LOC there will be a color chart that shows which wire of the LOC goes to which speaker, you will have to match it up with the color chart i listed above.
On the LOC there will be 4 individual gain controls. Find out what the max voltage input is on the amp and try to match it with the LOC.
