Amp Fuse Location

Does it matter where the inline fuse is located on the power wire from the battery to the amp? like a specific distance or such?

Within 12" from the battery, I think.

yeah the closer the better, the whole point of the fuse is to act before the surge can get very far

the reason i figure the fuse has to be so close to the battery is because of the possibility of a accidental ground, which would be bad in case you didnt know. Your amp is already protected from surges with the onboard fuses, but if you put your fuse closer to the amp and your power wire is grounded somehow towards the center or front of the car, this usually doesnt happen if you are very careful, they bad things will happen to your battery. If your fuse is close to the battery then this is provented.

me personally i have my will have my fused distribution block in the trunk because i will display it. You just have to be careful.

Even in the case of DrtySthV6SE's fused distro block, I would still fuse the power wire close the battery. I dunno if DrtySthV6SE was stating that he uses no fuse close to the battery since the distro block is fused.

^ Thats not very smart.

You need a fuse or circuit breaker after the battery. Within 18" of the battery.

Your fuse/distro box is for the amps.

In my setup I have a circuit breaker after the battery. Which runs into a fuse/distro box for my 1 of my amps and processors. My other amp has a 100A ANL fuse + holder which branches off the fuse/distro box.

dang, i dont feel like moving my fuse from the trunk back to under the hood. i moved it cause i put my intake in and originally had the fuse rest on the stock airbox and didnt want the fuse to dangle around...

is it that critical?

^ Yes it's EXTREMELY critical to move it back. The whole point of having the fuse is to have it close to the battery.

You guys are nuts not to do this...I wouldn't even drive around if my car wasn't wired up like this.

^ Don't forget that your amp(s) need to be fused too.

Some amps have built on fuse(s). And some don't.

If your amp(s) don't have built on fuse(s) you need to fuse them externally.

^ Built on fuse meaning the fuse plugs into the amp.
