Gen1

You pry could do it yourself. Once you actually do it, you will say to yourself, "Wow, that was easy, and I'll never pay for that to get done".

I had a friend who had no idea on anything car stereo. He wanted me to install everything he had. I told him that I would help him install everything, so if anything went wrong, he had an idea on how to troubleshoot it. After we were done, he thanked me for having him help and seeing how things worked.

Do you have any friends that could help you install it?

REM stand for Remote. This is where you will connect the remote wire that will connect to some wire that is live when the car is on. The best place to connect it to is the wire coming out of the back of your cd player specifically for this. Look for a blue wire that is cut off. You need the remote wire hooked up so that the amp turns on and off, otherwise it would just be on all the time.

REM should run to your head unit, and use one of the antenna wires (i think blue w/white, if you're looking at the wires that were factory installed, and just plain old blue in a store bought harness/adapter) 12v runs to the battery and ground runs to a point on the car frame, I couldnt tell you if it matters where.

sorry for butting in the thread, but i have a question in regards to remote turn on.

i have seen many installers who tie the remote turn on to a power source (unkwon to me) that is not the power antenna, and hence the amp is always on with the CAR and not the HEAD UNIT. why would they do this if you can just tie into the hu and have the amp turn on/off with it?

also, i read that other guys post the other day where he tied into his power antenna and found out it was only on when the head unit was in 'radio' mode and not 'cd'
would that happen with all cars, or just some? i have an 05 tacoma double cab and will be beggining my install soon, so i would like to know.

thanks
nick

you dont tap the remote to the power antena....doing so will result in what you said, having the amp only on when the radio is playing...most head units turn off the power antena lead when you switch to CD.

aftermarket headunits have a dedicated 12v+ remote turn on line...its a solid blue wire.

if the deck doesnt have one, most people tap into the cigerette lighter or something like that. it just needs to be a switched 12v+ wire.
