Headunit, clock, and various other shxt not working.
Aright so a while ago, I noticed my dome light was not turning on anymore. I decided to check it out, thought maybe it was the bulb. I park the car in the garage, go inside for a min, come back out, and sit in it. First thing I notice, thinking about the dome light, is that the bulb in the instrument cluster that tells you a door is open is not working. Ok big coincidence, two bulbs burnt out. Then I start noticing other shxt. The little "ding ding ding" isn't there when they keys are in and the door is ajar. Then I turn it to ACC and see that the clock doesn't go on. Neither does the radio.
All the instrument cluster and HVAC lighting is fine, all that doesnt work is the clock, the radio, the dome light (whether on Door or On), the door ajar light, and the ringing sound when the door is open with keys in the lock.
The funny thing is, the radio, clock, and I'm pretty sure everything else not counting the dome light were working less than half an hour ago of me typing this.
I'm thinking it's a fuse or something. Any idea what to do?
definately sounds like a fuse. check your fuse box, change the fuse and if the same problems occurs after a short period, then you may have a wire thats grounding so you'll need to trace the wires. best bet back track any mods that may have come in contact with any of these functions.
Yea I figured its a fuse, but I don't know which one to look for. Would it be under the hood, or one of those behind the dash?
I have taken out the instrument cluster several times and put in a new radio and speakers, but this was right before new years and everything has been working fine up til now.
One thing though I remember, I replaced the dome bulb maybe 3 months ago, it worked fine, and maybe a week after that it would only work sometimes, then it stopped working all together. As I said the radio and clock were working last night. And the key-in-ignition bell and door ajar light were working after I put in my new audio stuff. It just stopped working suddenly yesterday.
if your car is like any other toyota i know, check the fuses inside the car, it should be in the passenger kick panel...(over here its the driver kick panel)
Check your car manual. It should list what items are out and what fuse number it is and where it is located.
The first thing you should have checked was the fuse. Sounds like it might be a few. Either use the spare fuses in the box that will be labeled in the manual, or go buy some.
Got it. It was just a "20 A" fuse that was blown for whatever reason. It wasn't even in the kick panel, it was under the hood. Yeah the car manual is a big help in finding the right fuse.
