Rear speakers for 97 camry

Ok, so i am new to this forum, and before joining, I was browsing online looking for directions to install new rear speakers in my 97 camry LE. I came accross directions for a 92 camry LE and that was all. The guy said that you had to cut the whole bigger in the back so that the speaker would fit flush, and also had to drill holes in order to mount the new speaker.. Is this true? i havnt taken my car apart yet because of time, but can someone plz tell me what i have to do to install the speakers? Thanks a lot

It is possible and is common on cars. I don't know about your particular car or speaker though. But yes, it's possible.
If you go to a reputable place you won't even know he cut anything.

I did a front and rear speaker replacement on my '98 (Gen 4, similar to yours). I stuck with the 6x9" speakers and avoided having to cut the opening by making a mounting bracket out of MDF. Here's the link for the how-to:

Man, that needs to be stickied, or put in the Ultimate Audio Sticky post

It seems like every other week someone is asking how to change their back speakers in their camry.

I know it was stickied back when I first posted it, and I still get about 20+ hits a week on that page.
