Rear speaker suggestions

I have a 97 camry LE and am looking for new speakers for the back. They are 6x9 but i really want to know what speakers have the best bass response. I am not going to add a subwoofer so I want to get the best bass out of my speakers. Any suggestions?

to get the best bass out of smaller speakers your best bet would to go with a set of amplified components.

some will tell you that 6x9's dont sound as good as 6.5" because the irregular shape causes distortion. although this may be true, if all you want is more bass, the 6x9's obviously have more surface area and have ability to sound louder than a round 6.5"

imho i would tell you to get an 8" sub and amplify it, but since you clearly state you dont want one the alternative is components, but they will still need to be amplified.

basically if all you do is replace the speakers without amplifying them, it will not be

any louder. and if you dont want a sub, because you want an easy install, then the components are not the answer.

an 8" sub is super easy to install, cheap, and will sound great. rear 6x9 components are somewhat pricey and IMO are not worth it.

but hey lemme see what i can find you

EDIT:

6x9 components are expensive and not that great, but here you go:

Thanks so much. I think im going to think about getting an amp. I also heard that you have to grind the existing hole for the 6x9 speakers, in order for the new ones to fit. Is that true? Thanks again.

Thats a good question, the last thing coming in for my system is the 6x9s. In a gen3 camry, is there grinding to be done?

I looked on ray ray online and he said that you have to grind in order to install the speakers. Is this really the case? If so that is going to be a bitch and a half.

6.5" are better anyway, so if you can get those in without grinding then your problem is solved.

well i got some 6.5"s and 6x9"s (see the sig below) so it goes both ways or something. Can we get a confirmation or rejection on this grinding idea?

6x9 components aren't the answer. While those are good speakers dump the components and just get a nice set of 6x9s. If you want real bass the only way to accomplish it is through a subwoofer. And if you're looking for bassy 6x9s, MB Quart really isn't your answer...

If you've upgraded your headunit to a unit with preouts, there are some subs with an amplifier built into them that you can buy fairly cheap and the installation is simple/cheap.

Where did all the old audio techs from this forum go?
