I already have an aftermarket headunit. I'm not going to get subs because i really dont have the money. I just got my lisence and am learning car insurance is a bitch. Also, i wont have a job till summer. I have a blaupunkt headunit installed now. I am thinking on just buying an amp and new speakers though. Would that make a difference? I understand that i wont get a lot of bass without a sub, but i want to get the most i can within a good price range.
well you can actually get a sub for as cheap as you could get speakers, so if money is your only concern dont worry about it.
how many watts per channel is your head unit?
the amount of bass will not change unless you amplify, so if youre going to spend the cash it would prolly be better to just get a sub.
you can get a very decent amp + sub for $150. then spend $40 or $50 for wiring and wood for your enlosure and for $200 or less you will have way more bass than any 6x9 speakers youd get for a comparable amount.
if youve got 200 to spend, thats how I would do it.
what kind of decent amp and sub can u get for $150? not trying to sound pessimistic, but if u can get something real good for that cheap than im impressed
well personally i like sound quality - but u have a point, u can definitely get high-powered amps for cheap even though they dont have the best quality...i.e. u can get a bazooka 500W amp for under $150, but its just not the best amp imho.
p.s. i like your sig - i'm a fellow alpine freak...
alpines M350 (350w rms 700w mx) sub amp is 150 even on ebay (and thats taking into acct shipping and buy it now prices)
And i personally vouch for that SQ

there are many choices. its obviously clear that subs can be had for mad cheap. if all he wants is some more bass he will be very happy with 500 watts or less.
some people are into 1000 watt rms subwoofers, but most are not.
i would reccomend he gets something along the lines of a 300watt rms 10" or 12" sub and an equally powerful amp.
then all he would need is an 8 gauge amp kit, a line output converter, rca's and some speaker wire.
you could even get an amp with speaker level inputs and you wouldnt need to get a line output converter or rca's
Those speakers are fine for the money. I personally prefer Pioneer speakers when you're on a budget. They generally sound a little better dollar for dollar. The Kenwoods have more mids, but the bass response is about the same. You won't really get true bass from any speakers you're going to be installing off a deck, especially if you go with a budget system. But, there's nothing wrong with a budget system. Don't let these guys on here talk you into spending 4x what you want on a sub. You have a lot of options available to you.
If you're looking for the most bass response out of a coaxial speaker then look into getting a 2 way coaxial. Look into a 2 way over a 3 way either way though anyways. The power that is going to be sent to that third little speaker is going to mean less power going to the woofer.
My recomendation for a good 6x9 coaxial is the Pioneer Rev series speakers, they are built just like their older high end PRS speakers that are supposed to sound awesome. I had the Pioneer REV speakers in my camry for my rearfill(before I ditched the rearfill) and they sounded incredible. I had them running off a JL 300/4 with 75 watts RMS going to them. Very good midbass for a coaxial.
They can be bought for under 100 bucks off ebay.
