There are actually some Gen 5 stock headunits made by Pioneer, and the speaker output is higher in these systems:

Fujitsu Ten:
Tweeter - 9W
Front Door - 17.5 W
Rear - 12W

Pioneer:
All speakers - 17.5W

All JBL systems:
Tweeter - 15W
Front Door - 20W
Rear - 25W

In the past, all Toyota decks were made by Fujitsu Ten, up until '98. Then, Delco & Matsushita started making them also, since they've incorporated CD changer controls. How did JBL get on board? It's because of Mark Levinson from the Lexus line, which is all under Harmon International. Nakamichi didn't offer any navigation capabilites, thus, they were dropped in favor of Harmon Int'l. Of course, now with the Scion, Pioneer has been called also.

And the new tacomas use panasonic for their headunits.

Fact is they're all pretty pathetic compared to an aftermarket cd player.

I agree, the facory system in ma's sinenna, though JBL, is weak compared to even an average aftermarket. Besides...my camry has more TV's than hers..haha
