Now, Who will step up for Sony? haha!

Ok, we've had the pioneer descusion, now how about sony? We all know they make a lot of crap, but so do most companys.

Im a big fan of their amplifiers, everyone automatically say they suck, but have you actually used one or heard one? Ive got a sony 4ch amp with 75watt rms going to each channel, to drive my kicker front and rear components, and it sounds crystal clear. i have NEVER had a problem with this amp, it has never not worked for any reason! This is the second sony amp i have owned and i had the same experience with the first one.

I also have a kicker KX600 amp that i absolutly hate. Right now it completly doesnt work, but even when it did work, the thing would clip and go into protect mode ALL THE FREAKIN TIME, and i never had the settings turned up very high either. This is the second kicker amp that ive had that has crapped out afte about 1 years use. The first one i got replaced under warrenty, but this one i seem to be screwed on.

Granted Sony headunits are really ugly and break all the time, and their component speakers will distort at the drop of a pin, but I also like their p5 subwoofers. I think if you need something cheap, and still want it to sound at least decent, if not good, they cant be beat. They sound good, and hit very hard.

anyway, flame all you want.

Most of the time when you buy car audio equipment you don't have problems. Just because you used a Sony product without a problem doesn't mean the line itself is any good. General rule of thumb with sony is that whatever they produce, their competitors can do it better with more reliability and often for a better price. This is the reason I'm not a fan of Sony. It's not that their equipment is crap (which in some cases it is), but I just can't dignify spending the money on it or recommending someone else to spend money on it when you could change brands to Pioneer or Kenwood and have a better peice of equipment with the tradeoff of less bling.

We're not here to start any flaming wars buddy.

Sony products are basically hit or miss, and it sounds like you got a good product with your amp. Congrats While the only products made by Sony I own are home theater/PS2 related, I can't exactly agree or disagree with anything you've said, but just from what I've heard, they're not exactly reliable... However, Sony doesn't put as many restrictions on 2nd hand dealers as say... JL and that's why you can get their stuff for sooooo cheap and often times, you're getting a great deal on average equipment.

Let me tell you a story....

Back in 2000, when I was competing in car shows with my Accord, I came across Sony's Ford Foci's. One was red with Xplod plastered in silver on both sides of the car, while the other was silver, with Xplod plastered in red on both sides as well. My team and I were walking around the show(Import Auto Salon(IAS)), checking out everyone's rides, and came across the Sony booth with these cars displayed. Some guy in the group asked the reps if they could turn up their system to see how loud it could go, and still sound good. Well, as the rep went to turn up the red Focus, the amps on the rack started to smoke, "protect" light showed up on the amps, and the rep got pissed off. He decided to shut down the car. Not even 2 minutes later, the silver Focus started to act up. 1 out of the 3 subs blew, the others started to sound like crap, and the monitors in the vehicle shut off. Now, I have personally owned a Sony headunit in the past, and it stopped working after 10 months; after seeing this, and selling Sony products in the past, I have come to the conclusion that Sony car audio electronics has definitely gone down in quality, so I give them a

Sony car audio used to be good like 7 or so years ago. They're actually getting better now but there's much better stuff out there for cheaper. Look into underground brands. Amps I'd say look at edesignaudio.com. Speakers, mmm not sure, a lot of brands make good components but not many of the underground ones make coaxials or anything other than 6.5" components. Subs... ED, RE, Incriminator, Ascendant Audio, and Sound Splinter.

Hm, dealt with sony, stuff is a hit or a miss I would say. My head unit doesnt play cd's in the headunit slot anymore, just scratches them instead, so I have to use the 10disc changer in my trunk to use cd's. I will get another sony hea dunit so I can use my changer... but thats the only real reason.

Im just compairing the reliablity of my Kicker amps vs my Sony amps, and both my kicker amps have shitted out within a year, but the sonys cant be stopped.

I payed $100 for a sony amp, and $300 for a kicker amp and im ready to throw the kicker amp out the damn window. If someone can tell me where they can get a clear and effiecent 800watt RMS @2 ohms for $180, please do, id definatly like to hear it so i can compair the 2, im currently looking for a replacement for the kicker, and would like to keep my options open, so far ive only seen an amp by Audiobahn, (crap) and Lanzar, which i havent heard anything about.

I have owned many sony products and they haven't given me trouble, but i personally think they suck in sound quality. My damn cheaperd Audiopip sub looks better and plays much better than my sony P5 sub.

Sounds to me you got a defected amp, the kicker should easily blow away that sony.

If you think your going to find a 800 watt amp for $180 that puts out its rated power, your in for a rude awakening, not going to happen. People fall in to the 1000 watts 199.00 deal, when they're amps are not that great, ie sony, audiobahn, profile...and cant put out they're rated power. Now if you want a well built quality amp with like 75x2, their are alot of amps out there, medium brands like , kicker, mbquart, jl,ppi...and if you want to step up to some high end quality, then theirs dls, tru technology, sinfoni, brax, mccintosh, linear power...

i haev owned a few sony subs and amps in the past, and to tell you the truth theiry p5 series are pretty good for the amount that you pay for them. i have a p5 amp (800watts) and it's pushing to 12" infinity subs in my durango, and they push hard. the other amp i have is a sony 1100w max amp is pushing 2-12" rockfords and that gives me more than enough juice for those subs! their products lately are getting better, compared to their previous stuff. i will buy their amps with no question, they're great on the price and the amount of watts.

I'm not into starting trouble, or flame wars, but Sony needs to work on reliablity more than anything else, they are either hit or miss, and mostly miss. Hell even the new PS2's are shoddy, my store sends back about 1 out of 10.....daymn. I'm sticking with JVC and MTX

Well, I guess my Sony ES equipment is crap then compared to all of your "more-gimmicks-than-functionality-bling-bling" equipment.
